When I first heard ABOY a few weeks ago I thought U2 sounded more like Pearl Jam in this section:

"I’m alive
I’m being born
I just arrived, I’m at the door
Of the place I started out from
And I want back inside"

I didn't think much of it until a friend pointed out the same section and made the same comment. I am thinking that the common influence is The Who and not that U2 is copying PJ. But if you listen to it thinking of "Evolution" by PJ you can almost hear the allusion--the driving guitars, pounding drums and raspy voice.

Did anybody else think this?

i just thought discovered that yesterday! being a Pearl Jam fan, this excites me very much.

You just get a feeling that Bono really enjoyed singing this song. The way he sings that last verse.

And how he melodically drags out some of the last words: "back insiiiiiiiide" and "perfect agaaaaaaain"...

And, of course, the great scream before the solo.

Still my fav song on the album...

and Edge adds a riff at "of the place I started out from". Magic. I really hope they'll perform it as loud as possible!
