Arctic Monkeys play fun rock songs, which is exactly what Electric Co. is. They know exactly what they can do and play to their strengths. Whereas (for example) most metal is really guitar-wanking. You don't have to be extremely talented to play good music, and even if you do you don't have to show it off in every song in 3 minute long solos that go nowhere. Sometimes less is more. (case in point: U2).

Aye, but given the direction the new album seems to venture in (Favourite Worst Nightmare, that is), given a few more years, albums and more maturity, they can and will be more than a fun rock band...
