What songs would you put on a 80mins dvd for an absolute newbie to U2 music (with and without HTDAAB songs)?

Yep.

Though if I were trying to show all the varieties of U2, it might be something like this ...

(Probably not eighty minutes, but I'm too lazy to check it, heh.)

1. Where The Streets Have No Name
2. One Tree Hill
3. City Of Blinding Lights
4. The Unforgettable Fire
5. Running To Stand Still
6. New Year's Day
7. Acrobat
8. Gone
9. Until The End Of The World
10. The Electric Co.
11. Mofo
12. Mysterious Ways
13. Lemon
14. A Sort Of Homecoming
15. Bad
16. Heartland
17. Gloria
18. Walk On

They totally loved the recent Vienna gig.

So I'm just trying to give them an overall idea of U2's music you know - and I don't think the two Best Of albums really represent that - and I'm not sure if my personal faves would.

Thanks for that, Ax...looks like a good compilation to me, though I'll probably skip Mofo and Lemon...I love those songs but they might be shocked

Add One, make Mysterious Ways live, and the Walk on live, and it is brillant

Short and sweet, leave Zooropa and October as those delicious little unknown berries that your friend can try after thinking that they truly know U2. It'll knock em for a loop :D

U2 newbies

I am so excited for them. Assuming they like what they hear, they're in for an amazing ride.

imagine yourself not ever listened to a U2 song....and then suddenly, you get "The Joshua Tree" or the "War" album.......

I know what you mean. I'm currently discovering Van Morrison's music (borrowed a bunch of his CDs from a friend) and it's pretty exciting. But it doesn't compare to when I was buying R&H, War, JT, AB, Zooropa, etc. every few weeks.

ahh i remember buying All That You Can't Leave Behind. It was my first "rock" album, my earlier purchases included the Lord of the Rings Soundtrack, Backstreet Boys, and cough...the Pokemon soundtrack. Hey i was kinda young, scuse me...but thank goodness for "Beautiful Day" at the Super Bowl...

Thanks for all your compilation suggestions...will try them out and let you know the 'results'.

2Hearts, yeah, I'm very excited for them too. I mean none of them ever owned any U2 albums but they still went with me to the gig (they had good seats, whereas I had GA though)....I couldn't believe it when I met them again after the gig...one of them (my brother) said that no other band's gig would ever top what he just experiened and my best friend said that she could finally understand why I'm that crazy  for one single band.
