Now they are saying it's preloaded...

U2 iPod To Boast 400 Pre-Loaded Tracks

As expected, Apple has teamed with U2 to create a customized iPod pre-loaded with every one of the Irish rock act's studio albums. In all, the portable music player will contain more than 400 U2 tracks, including 25 rarities previously only available to subscribers to U2's official magazine, Propaganda. The device comes in black with a red click wheel and is engraved with band members' signatures.

In addition, Apple's iTunes Music Store will in late November make available "The Complete U2," allowing fans to download the tracks pre-loaded onto the customized iPod in one click. The bundle will sell for $149; the 20GB U2 iPod, which can hold 5,000 songs, will be available in mid-November for $349.

sounds like billboard has an error... often times those press releases are written up before the ink is dry on a contract. In watching the Broadcast it's pretty clear... it's $149 for the 400 songs, with a $50 off coupon if you also buy the U2 iPod.

From Apple's U2 Page:

Includes an iTunes Music Store coupon you can use to save $50 when you purchase “The Complete U2,” a digital boxed-set that includes more than 400 songs and more than 25 rare and unreleased tracks.

There is no mention of "preload" anywhere... so perhaps that was the original plan, but it got nixed by warner brothers, etc... If it were true, they surely would of said, the iPod is only $199... etc...
