Off the top of my head, there's only one U2 song that I really just can't get into: "A Room at the Heartbreak Hotel." I think it's those back-up singers. They annoy me. Thoughts?

I couldn't hate any song from the days off Joshua Tree and Rattle & Hum if only because Bono's voice was so great back then

at least you didn't pick Red Light

Shake it, shake it, shake it

Well, I don't hate it, per se. It just doesn't really do anything for me. I dunno. I feel guilty even saying that, but it doesn't.

BTW: "Red Light" is an awesome song!

I love the way the song kind of slowly creeps up on you....."you want the truth but you need the lies..." I love that line.

WISH I could convince you, wertsie....I loooooove this song, it's great to play at full volume in the mornings on the way to work. Bono's voice is SO strong and rich...and I love the backup singers as well...I'm always wishing *I* had a voice like that...man....

oh well...difference of opinions, I guess.

Yeah, I don't know what it is. I just don't like the way their voices sound! That ruins the whole song for me...sigh...oh, well...

I can't believe that they put that piece of shit on the best of instead of 'Deep In the Heart' and don't even get me started on 'Gloria' and 'When love Comes to Town'

I't okay not to like everything, no one does! It's like going to the all you can eat buffet. Not everyone wants everything. There is NOTHING wrong with that and you are not a bad fan or a bad person! It's okay! Just listen to what you do like.

You know...I REALLY like Larry's drum part in the song...hehe

I guess I go by that one quote Jennifer Grey says in Dirt Dancing. "If you love me, you have to love all the things about me." *shrugs*

You know what? I'm listening to it this moment, and it's really starting to grow on me. The band sounds great. Oh, shit, here come those crappy backup singers again...time to switch to different song...ahhhh...."Seconds"! Much better!

Grrr...Damn backup singers! grumble, grumble!

the backup singers are what ruins the Rattle and Hum version of Still haven't found...

When their voices come in I ALWAYS skip!

Yeah, me too, most of the time. But I think they sound better than the backup singers in ARATHH! eek!

You don't like A Room at the Heartbreak Hotel????? Quickly, cast yourself out

Seriously though, I love this song. I think it is really hypnotic and haunted. I wish it had been on Rattle and Hum. It is one of my favs from that period. And, I like the backup singers. Listen to it again, you'll come around

Peace.

I've listened to it...over and over and over. I am getting to where I really like the song...up until the part where the damn backup singers came in!

Yes, I can, actually. I LOVE that song, just like every song on AB. It's in my blood.

I was actually listening to it today on my walkman, walking in the rain. Very powerful. There's nothing like listening to U2 in the rain to make a person feel all philosophical...hehe

William: The letter "u."

You sick, sad shell of an individual.

Hawkmoon 269 and A Room At the Heartbreak Hotel did come from the same mold and both are great songs. Hawkmoon is greater though and you couldn't put both on the album just like you couldn't put Beautiful Day and Always on the same album.

Ah hah!! ALMOST FAMOUS. A beautiful film, I might add.

For me, I equate "Room at the Heartbreak Hotel" with "Hawkmoon 269" They are both about a hotel room, harlots, heartbreak. Their sound is even very similar, including the chorus of ladies at the end and even Larry's drums. I'm assuming that each of these songs molded out of one another.

But "Hawkmoon" just works better. The lyrics are more fulfilling and descrptive and the music just swells passionately at the end.

"Meet your love in the harlot..."

Aha! Another Almost Famous fan! None of my friends seem to like it, but I love it. I think it's a beautiful film. Cameron Crowe rocks! I still haven't seen Vanilla Sky, but I'm getting way off track here, so I'll switch back to the actual topic.

Yeah, I like "Hawkmoon" and I would probably like "Heartbreak" if it weren't for those damned backup singers. But I've already said that like 100 times, so...

Sure. Those keyboards are just magically soothing. It makes me feel like i wanna hug everyone in the world when i listen to it, i feel at peace with the world if you know what i mean.

ps: Bet you regret asking it now, with so many positive replies.
