Earth, why have borders?
From U2, or any other band. I think music has the ability of capturing a variety of people's life in a verse, in a lyric - something which really amazes me. So today in school I was thinking, choose one verse, one piece of lyric that describes your life/your feelings or something that you feel increidbly related to, that you feel "it's being written to you".

I'll put mine on later tonight, don't worry if you don't respond now - take some time and think about it. Music is really amazing and maybe we can learn something about eachother here!

"Work like you don't need the money, love like you've never been hurt, live like there is no tomorrow, dance like no one is watching." --Bono

"The only limits are the limits of our imagination. Dream up the kind of world you want to live in. Dream out loud. At high VOLUME".

Beautiful Day's lyrics. Almost all of them.

"I was born a MacPhisto"

right now, its "Don't let the bastards grind you down." work sucks. what can I say?

And all of "Walk On"

WGRYWH unfortunately...well parts of it.

The Strokes - "Barely Legal"

I didn't take no shortcuts
I spent the money that I saved up
Oh, momma running out of luck
Like my sister, don't give a fuck

You're looking for the one
But you know you're somewhere else instead
You want to be the song
Be the song that you hear in your head

Being one can be great but respecting differences can be greater. - Bono in Belfast, August 26, 1997

In high school it was Discotheque. I remember going to dances or just sitting at a friend's house and thinking that song described how everyone acted in high school.
Right now, I'd say that Beautiful Day resonates in my everday life.

OK , i think i got the real one it's a long tune

Dirty Day----Bullet The Blue Sky----Running To Stand Still ----- Where The Streets Have No Name -----Pride ( in the name of love )

you gotta cry without weaping, talk without speaking, scream without raising your voice

or

i've been dazed and confused for so long it not true, wanted a woman never bargained for you

------------------
Running to Stand Still-"you gotta cry without weeping, talk without speaking, scream without raising your voice."

"we're not burning out we're burning up...we're the loudest folk band in the world!"-Bono

I'm nearly great but there's something missing

Love is drowning in a deep well, all those secrets and no-one to tell

It's no secret that a conscience can sometimes be a pest

They say be careful where you aim, because where you aim you just might hit
You can hold on to something so tight, you've already lost it

Love is big, and love is tough, but love is not what you're thinking of

"sometimes i feel like i don't know
sometimes i feel like checkin' out
i want to get it wrong
can't always be strong
and Love, it won't be long..."

but this is probably perfect:

"don't worry baby, it'll be alright
uncertainty can be a guiding light..."

Rock 'N Roll is the sound of revenge.

always wear your safety belt.

a real gem in the rough that is bono's writing.

pssst. i am joking.

Imagine:
In Florida the wind is rattling the chimes.
You look over the alligators and the sea grass and water. There it is:
The rocket's burn. The best century ever.
We were here. But now it's time to go.

Probably all of the lyrics to "So Cruel" resonate most with me at this sad time....
(and I'm still not sure I'm the lyricist or on the receiving end of them...)

yeah I'd break bread and wine
if there was a church I could receive in

'cause I need it now

to take the cup
to fill it up
to drink it slow
can't let you go

LAST NIGHT ON EARTH

UNTIL THE END OF WORLD

NEW YEAR'S DAY

BABYFACE

MYSTERIOUS WAYS

soory , that this is not ONE song , but that's how it goes

You are such a fool
to worry like you do.
I know it's tough
and you can never get enough
of what you don't really need

Sometimes I feel like my brain is going in about 20 different directions. It reminds me to slow down and take a deep breath and that it will be okay.

"Jon, why can't you do what Bono says"--The Daily Show

very interesting thread! there are definitely certain lyrics that have "spoken" to me at different times in my life, for different reasons.

from "Stay":

Green light, Seven Eleven
You stop in for a pack of cigarettes
You don't smoke, don't even want to
Hey now, check your change
....
Red lights, gray morning
You stumble out of a hole in the ground
A vampire or a victim
It depends on who's around

from "Tryin to Throw Your Arms Around the World":

Six o'clock in the morning
You're the last to hear the warning
You've been trying to throw your arms
Around the world
You've been falling off the sidewalk
Your lips move but you can't talk
Tryin' to throw your arms around the world
....
Nothin' much to say I guess
Just the same as all the rest
Been trying to throw your arms around the world
And a woman needs a man
Like a fish needs a bicycle
When you're tryin' to throw your arms around the world

from "Who's Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses":

You're an accident waiting to happen
You're a piece of glass left there on the beach

from "Last Night on Earth":

She's not waiting on a saviour to come
She's at the bus-stop with News of the World and the Sun
Sun, here it comes
She's not waiting for anyone
....
She hasn't been to bed in a week
She'll be dead soon then she'll sleep
....
She already knows it hurts
She's living like it's the last night on earth

From "If God Would Send His Angels":

Nobody else here baby
No one here to blame
No one to point the finger
It's just you and me and the rain

Hey if God will send his angels
And if God will send a sign
And if God will send his angels
Would everything be alright

From "Walk On":

And if your glass heart should crack
And for a second you turn back
Oh no, be strong

Walk on

And I know it aches
And your heart it breaks
You can only take so much
Walk on

Leave it behind
You've got to leave it behind

oops! sorry, it says that i have to pick just one lyric. well, if it was up to me i'd pick all of "Trying to Throw Your Arms around the World", but especially this one verse:

Nothin' much to say I guess
Just the same as all the rest
Been trying to throw your arms around the world
And a woman needs a man
Like a fish needs a bicycle
When you're tryin' to throw your arms around the world

Sorry, I had all these specific lyrics in mind.....good question though

Goodbye...
You can keep this suit of lights
I'll be up with the sun
I'm not coming down
I'm not coming down
I'm not coming down

I'm not afraid to die
I'm not afraid to live
And when I'm flat on my back
I hope to feel like I did

I'm walkin' down that long, lonesome road, babe
Where I'm bound, I can't tell
But goodbye's too good a word, babe
So I'll just say fare thee well
I ain't sayin' you treated me unkind
You could have done better but I don't mind
You just kinda wasted my precious time
But don't think twice, it's all right
-Boby Dylan

Sunrise like a nosebleed
Your head hurts and you can't breathe
You been tryin' to throw you arms around the world
How far you gonna go
Before you lose your way back home
You've been trying to throw your arms
Around the world
(Tryin' To Throw Your Arms Around The World)
--------

No, nothing makes sense
Nothing seems to fit
I know you'd hit out
If you only knew who to hit
And I'd join the movement
If there was one I could believe in
Yeah I'd break bread and wine
If there was a church I could receive in
'cause I need it now

(Acrobat)

--------
And you give yourself away

(With or Without You)

-------

lookin' for to save my soul
lookin' in the places where no flowers grow
lookin' for to fill that GOD shaped hole

(Mofo)

------

you wanted to get somewhere so badly
you had to lose yourself along the way
you change a name but that's okay... it's necessary
and what you leave behind you don't miss anyway

(Gone)

-------

And the greatest thing is, I doubt the way I intepret those lyrics was the way they were written. But I relate to them according to my experiences and so do other people and we all get some sort of comfort from them in our own different ways.

With or Without you is the anthem of my life.

------------------
If you take a drive, I'll tax the street
If you try to sit, I'll tax your seat
If you get too cold, I'll tax your heat
If you talk a walk, I'll tax your feet
I'm the taxman!
