Just had NYD from Vertigo////\\\\////\\\Chitown come up on shuffle, and I forgot how brilliant this version of the song is.

Adam actually nails the intro. He's perfect.

Does anyone (preferably bootleg specialists) have any other instances of Adam not having to be reeled in by Larry for the start of NYD?

Reeled in? Doesn't he usually nail it? maybe I've missed that. Though on some bootlegs, where Edge is out on the catwalks/b-stage, I can't help but think "run Edge run." :)

Out goofing off with Bono, will he make it to the piano in time...

I was watching Zoo TV Sydney the other day and New Year's Day stood out for a couple of reasons:

1. What a cracking version of this is!

2. Is Adam actually playing? There is a point in the song where you can hear his bass but clearly see his hand away from the guitar. Anyone else see this? Its about halfway through the song I think.

He does this sometimes. He plays one-handed on NYD. Part of the bass line is without needing use of the fretboard, so he takes it off.

I want Bootleg Specialist on a t-shirt. My people are getting on this ASAP.

The Slane version is pure magic. I'm a big fan of NYD...it's like a musical engine that keeps revving up and up through a crescendo of emotion. It's so strong, that even if you took away the vocals, the instruments would still carry it.

I loved the Amsterdam III version, the one where Edge screwed up the solo and it ended up sounding awesome. I wish he'd play around with it a bit more.
