The Joshua Tree. Wonderful album, my second fav behind AB.

it also has one the most important songs in my life on it. WOWY. if it wasn't for me hearing that song being murdered by some wannabe on a talent show about 3 years ago i don't think i'd be typing this now, or even know about interference.com or, come to think about it, own ANY U2 album. simply hearing the intro to that song made me realise again how good it was (i hadn't heard it for a loooooong time!) and practially forced me to go and buy their 'best of 1980-90' CD and 've never looked back since!

Thank you JT!

Spinning it right now. It's been awhile.

Easily one of the greatest rock albums ever made. As good as anything the Beatles ever did.

i turned seventeen that fall. i had already been a fan for three years.

i remember hearing josh for the very first time. it was in my brother's convertible, top down, beautiful southern california spring day. when bullet started, we both kind of went, "whoa."

he looked at me and said, "we should go see them."

and so we did. three times that year. at the los angeles sports arena in april, and at the colisseum in november.

wow. thanks for the memories.

 josh

Happy Birthday, Joshua Tree! Thank you for giving us, among other things, Where the Streets Have No Name.

Happy Birthday Joshua Tree    :) with that album I became U2 fan, back in mid 1987

Great memories, Joshua Tree was my first ever CD I bought, in 1990 ( at that time we still used cassettes in Chile  )

FELIZ CUMPLEAÑOS JOSHUA TREE !!!!!

It's nice to see a nice positive post from you without one dig at the recent work. And I'm not being sarcastic so don't reply slagging off the current u2. You'll ruin it!

Excellent review Axver

Thanks! :) Glad that people have enjoyed what I wrote.

I’d be interested in hearing how you see WOWY as conversation between Jesus and the Father.

That's actually not my theory but one I have seen posted by others, relating to Jesus on the cross where he cries out "why have you forsaken me?" My interpretation is actually the other religious one, between a struggling believer and God, which came about through personal events that need not be discussed on a public forum and the song perfectly articulated my feelings at the time of being unable to live with or without God.

Have you considered a lyrical interpretation of “the JT trilogy”? The spirituality, theology, the faith relationship between the character and the “You” in Streets, the “You” in Still Haven’t Found, and the “You” in WOWY. I think it would be interesting to see if and how all 3 songs form one story, a single journey between a person and God.

I have actually thought about it, and if I had had more time and space, I might have actually spent the time exploring that. I haven't thought seriously deeply about it yet, but on a basic look, one interpretation could perhaps be this: if you see Streets as being about Heaven, then the character wishes to go there, but he still hasn't found what he is looking for, and he can't live with or without God (obviously applying my own personal interpretation there to WOWY). I may spend some more time looking at this one and interpreting it. I do have my doubts U2 ever had such interpretations in mind, but as they say, they have no problem when their songs take on other meanings in individual lives ...

 Not so long ago another album had its Birthday in diferent thread... and I must say it was a HUUUGE party... while this one looks more like slides showing, photo albums watching kind-of-meeting, memories of a dead friend...
Come on, JT is 18, it can drink alcohol and legaly watch porn now... make some life in here people!
