'tis a great song!

because of that song i taught myself how to play the piano...
i stole my sister's tape and played it over and over until i found the keys..

Ah, yes....I couldn't forget to put the flaming piano keys in those pictures...I think of that scene and Bono's lusciously golden mullet whenever I think of the NYD video. :der: :p

golden mullet...oh so beautiful

We better be careful here, kids....this is turning into a *gasp* PLEBA thread! :censored: :der: :p

yes Iris, that was nice effect. I also like the blood-redish tint of the sky against the stark white snow.

was that "un-PLEBA" enough?

i must say that the flaming piano keys clip was a nice effect to this video. ;)

Yes! The piano is the centerpiece of the song. That video effect was ahead of its time, considering it was 1983.

And I always wonder where they're at in that video-looks like a really pretty area with all the snow and all that.

So it's been 20 years, eh?

*Toasts 20 year anniversary of song*

My Best of 1980-1990 video says that the video was shot in Sweden, in Dec. '82.

I listened to the song today....I know *dork* :der:

Um......yes it was......?

I also listened to the song today, so you aren't the only dork! It's definitely in my personal Top 10 list of U2 songs.

I never knew they actually released the single on Jan. 1! Cool!

You can hear the Oct./NYD on a lot of bootlegs.

I downloaded New Year's Dub today, I was really disappointed with it. New Year's Day, however, is a great song. Easily in my top 5.

Holy smokes, I remember this release. Not when it actually happened, but later on that year I would find out that "it was released on New Years' Day of this year".
Twenty years........damn. Amazing.

Video was filmed December 15, 1982 in Sweden. It was during the PRE-WAR tour that lasted from December 1, to December 22, 1982 and included dates through out Europe. Later that evening on December 15, 1982, U2 played their only show in Sweden on that small tour, in Stockholm.

The Song New Years Day may be the greatest song they have written so far. Its definitely one of the top 5!

Yes the boy is the one on the BOY album cover. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe his name is Derek Rowen the younger brother of Guggie.
