I've long been curious about this subject and am hoping someone can help me. In the last 10 years or so, I've very rarely seen Edge without a hat or beanie and was wondering if he is embarrassed by his 'lack of hair.' Does anyone know if he is? Or does he just like wearing headgear?!

I think he's embarassed. Have you seen the picture taken in August at Bob Hewson's funeral? He has no hat and I am not surprised he is embarassed -- very little hair, but he is still gorgeous.

"You must not look down on someone just 'cos they are 14 years old. When I was that age I listened to the music of John Lennon and it changed my way of seeing things, so I'm just glad that 14 year olds are coming to see U2 rather than group X." - Bono, 1988

I don't think he's embarassed at all. I think it's become such a trademark for him to wear hats all the time that he's never seen without them now.

I don't think he should be embarassed. I think men with thinning hair is a very sexy trait. Don't get me wrong, I don't dig comb-over's or anything like that, but on someone as sexy as edge-who's lookin at the hair!? (or lack thereof)!

I kind of think of his hat as his trademark, sort of like Bono's sunglasses. Bono is rarely seen without his glasses as Edge is without his hat. I've also noticed that a lot of other musicians have been wearing beanies, maybe he has started a trend!

I sure hope not.
"That's not a bald patch. It's a solar panel for a sex machine!"
I saw that quote on a T shirt once. I do believe there is quite a bit of truth to it

I don't think he is.
I think he should stop wearing hats and beanies and just just shave it all off and grow some kick ass sideburns.

To seriously answer the question tho...doesn't ANYONE remember POP? Sure there was the cowboy hat, but there are plenty of shots of hatless Edge...looking very cool, comfortable and stylish.

Speaking as someone who as they grow older is starting to become a bit follicly (sp?) challenged (that bald spot on the back of your head can make it chilly!

) I can tell you that you go through a couple of phases with it and I'am sure Edge did also.

At first it is a shock and you ARE embarrassed by it but you come to terms with it typically. I'am sure it was worse for Edge as he was and is out in the spotlight where millions of people see you and notice the change.

I DO know from first hand observation that Edge likes to keep the cap on almost all the time. I was at the 8-15-92 Chicago Outside Broadcast show. Bono brought two very exuberant girls on stage during Tryin To Throw Your Arms. When Edge came down the catwalk one of them snatched his burglar cap off. I was right by the ramp and let me tell you Edge was NOT pleased at all! He was downright pissed. He took it back and put it back on very quickly.

That being said obviously from the cover of Pop he has come to terms with it somewhat.

So I dont think he really cares any longer but given the choice likes to cover up. Why should he care. Obviously he can get someone as attractive and apparantly nice as Morleigh and you have more money than you could possibly spend in a lifetime, why would you care?? You wouldnt, anyway if it bothered him that much he certainly could afford plugs.

Actually, now that you say that, I have to agree. Does anyone remember the part in the Flanagan bible where the director of some video is listing the taboos: no shots of Edge without his hat being one of them? Funny funny funny

Edge didn't wear his hat in the Discotheque video or in the liner notes for POP, and that's about the coolest he's ever looked.

Well personally I'm embarassed by Salome's inability to spell embarassed

I have seen a few pictures of Edge unveiled, and I think he looks cool, but yeah the hat has become a trademark for sure (they even have a UToon about it) and it was sparked by the lack of hair I'd assume.

No doubt that he has so much to compensate for what he lacks on top.

Well you see ugly, rich guys with gorgeous women all the time! Not that Edge is ugly--I think the hat is sexy.

I dunno. He looked to me like a down-on-his-luck porn director.

"You gotta love living, baby, 'cause dyin's a pain in the ass."-- Frank Sinatra

Adam: Look guys, I got a Springfield spoon for my spoon collection.
Edge: Oh boy, here we go...
Bono: Wow, how many is that now Adam?
Adam: Nine. If I didn't have my spoons, I'd go insane.
Bono: Can I see it?
*adam gives bono the spoon, bono throws it away*
Adam: My spoon!

Okay, I think I'm the best judge of what The Edge is most likely feeling. I'm 22 and have been losing my hair for the last few years. (Yeah, it sucks, but it really isn't that big of a deal).
It's true that almost all men feel shocked and embarassed when they START losing their hair, but after they accept it life goes back to normal. The Edge has been bald/balding for over 15 years, so I think he's okay with his lack of a mane. My opinion on why he continues to wear beanies or caps relates to his job. As a rock star, he feels the need to 'look' the part. Typically, rock stars are youthful and exhibit physical traits of the youth culture. Being bald isn't a sign of youth, but rather a sign of maturation and wisdom. U2 knows this, and until they attempt to win an older crowd, and give up on the TRL crowd, The Edge will continue to conceal his baldness with a cap, and Bono will continue conceal his wrinkles and hairloss with a pair of glasses and hairplugs.
At least the Edge isn't wearing a toupee or getting implants like Bono.
I'd like to encourage Bono to let go of the hair products and bald gracefully. I always thought he's be "above" the rest when it came to aging, but apparently he's more mortal than I thought. I should be laughing at that statement, but sadly I'm straightfaced (LOL). Okay, I laughed! But that doesn't erase my disappointment.

even I'm emberassed by his baldness
