Coldplay doesn't have the thematic range and depth or sheer musical originality of U2

Ha, at last, sense.

I don't know, really. I personally am SO SICK of turning on the Hits and seeing boring 'RnB' or rap videos ALL day long. I would rather eat my own arm than buy these dreadful records. U2 isn't just rock, it's proper soul too without being this awful endless stream of rubbish like Usher and 50Cent. These people won't be remembered in 25 years! But U2 will!

Thank God for Coldplay someone says in that. Well, I'm sorry, I say thank God for U2.

These new acts don't have talent, yes they can sing but there is nothing dynamic about them. Okay some have talent. It is true that the way these record executives are nowdays there would be no U2.

I know music changes over time but really. Yes Hillary Duffy and Lindsey Lohan can carry a tune but they aren't great singers. They manufacter a person to make the sales. Do you think Britney Spears would have still been so big if she didn't take off half her clothes on stage? Can you say Madonna wanna be?

I'm not a Coldplay fan and I can't see why they are tagged as the "next U2" but U2 is still around and had the highest grossing tour this year so for 45 year old guys, they aren't doing too bad.

Yeah but to be great they'd have to do something more than recycle things u2 were doing better 20 years ago.

I don't know ...I don't like Coldplay and when they called them the"next U2" I cringed a bit....They are a great band but the next U2, I don't think so.

You heard it here first, folks..... There will likely never be another Springsteen or U2. Because record company's can no longer afford to develop talent (read: they aren't interested :madspit: ).

Meaning, rather than take an artist or group with good fundamentals that need to be tweaked a bit, records execs are just looking for whoever can give them the next Top Ten hit. What's that? You got lucky & only have one Top Ten in you because you're just a hack with the right look-for-the-moment? No bother, there's 10,000 others just dying for studio time right now.

It's a disposable society, people..... everything's just trash. :(

"There would be no U2 the way things are now," Bono said when inducting Springsteen into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in March , talking about the lack of interest in career development.

they should get their facts straight next time...

you know, all the new records out there nowadays by artists such as usher, keys, west, eminem, etc. need more developement then U2 needed with their debut album. "Boy" is much better then any album by any of these artists i named. it's not that these artists don't need developement, it is the fact that idiot teenagers buy their albums because "hip-hop is hip" and because these artists "look good" in their porn movies and in playboy.

"I despise hip-hop. Loathe it. Eminem is an idiot and I find 50 Cent the most distasteful character I have ever crossed in my life." -Noel Gallagher

"American teenagers shouldn't be able to buy records until (they are) 16. You'll buy any old nonsense - fucking Britney and Eminem." -Noel Gallagher

As much as I love Noel, he's dead wrong. By the time I was 16 my record collection was quite extensive and amazing for my age- all 10 Zeppelin albums, most of U2's stuff past War, all Radiohead albums at that point and Noel's band, Oasis.

But to the problem at hand. Coldplay isn't a fraction of U2 and never can or will be.

I think you have summed up my thoughts on this subject...Who ever wrote that artical has no idea what he/she is talking about it tis complete rubbish:madspit:

I think this article just proves that U2 needs to say :censored: you to the music industry, forget about fitting in and just do whatever they want musically. After all their efforts to market and promote themselves and be in the mainstream over the past five years, a lot of label executives seem to think they should be pushed aside for a bland, boring band like Coldplay, for no reason other than they are "old."

My thoughts!
I had to wrote a review for an online magazine, and I heard the new album, X & Y. My thoughts were: if I do want to listen to U2, I listen to U2, not to Coldplay playing as if they were U2.
Moreover coldplay doesn't have a guitarist like The Edge, so the results are always that melancholy that, afret 2 songs, gets on my nerves.

^

Can we get to the matter at hand, which is that American label executives are not interested in looking after talent but looking at rubbish that sells records, and then foisting it on the rest of the world.

Is is any wonder the only American band I listen to is REM? And the only American genre I like is indie guitar, for a better term: Grant Lee Phillips, Ryan Adams, Pixies et al.

Yup.

And it's also kind of hard to take them seriously when they say that, and when people say U2 is the next Coldplay.

My god... that makes me cringe when I hear that.
