How about dusting off those songs from October and play them again.

That would be even better.

But let's just take it one step at a time here. Jump right into it and Edge may spontaneously combust.

I was shocked when I read that news. I mean that guitar is such a huge part of his music... why would he give that one out? I know what he said but still.... I'm hoping that he gave an extra guitar he had just like the one he always uses. Then again this might be a good thing. Another sign that U2 don't want to live in the past. This means that he might use the Godtop more often now though which is great cause I adore it.

Jeez... You'd think he sold one of his arms or something...

WHY EDGE? WHY? and OH NOES! NO MORE U2!!!

It's a guitar people, I'm sure he can "be on fire" with another guitar just as well...

Voice of reason.

With all his effects and treatments he can probably make any guitar sound like any other, it was probably a matter of personal preference combined with having it pre-set up at concerts.

Only a select few songs have been solely that guitar. Zoo Station comes to mind.

I remember the days of JT on a radio interview - Bono was telling a story of a guy that showed Edge a "whole pile of guitars" and asked which one he preferred and Edge simply replied "the black one." Edge then joked that he wasn't much of a gear-head and that he generally liked his guitars black. Times have changed.

Music Rising Les Paul (Epiphone)

Music Rising Les Paul (Gibson)

I'm not sure what the fuss is all about, It's his decision after all and he has got at least three Les Paul models that he could use with a little help from Dallas.

Yeah, I heard he's got a main guitar and two backups for it in case it's needed.
We saw that on the Boston DVD for example where Edge smashes his Fireglo (the red) Rickenbacker and the footage switches to it from the Jetglo (darker guitar) sometimes.
And this tour he brought out the mapleglo for Mysterious Ways.

Boston:
Start of Gone (Jetglo)

second chorus, I think (Fireglo)

Edge starts shredding:
(Jetglo)

...Close up

Huh? Fireglo? Now, where did that come from?

Edge is getting angry (Fireglo)

Was the Explorer his first guitar? Because I have a video from 1981 of him playing Stories for Boys with it in the Late Late show before U2 was known...

This is my bold prediction for how Edge will replace it.

Brace yourselves, this is really radical thinking:

He will.... buy another one. :yikes:

[/thread]

You're welcome

But then he won't be able to afford new beanies  And he might have to sell Dallas  And Bono might have to actually play the guitar he usually holds while he talks

/sarcasm

I'm sad to see he's auctioning off his Les Paul, but it's for a fantastic cause, and there are many, many other Les Pauls in the world, and he and Dallas will surely go and try out a bunch of them. Even if they can't find exactly the same sound, they'll find one that's close, and Dallas will work his Dallas magic and make it work.

Because, you know, it's all about Dallas really. Edge just stands up there and holds the guitar

That appearance is actually from January 1980.

I don't know what his first guitar was, but it seems that he exclusively used the Explorer in 1979-80, at least from all the footage I can recall. Anyone know when he got the black Strat? I think I recall it in a 1981 bootleg DVD but I can't think of it showing up in 1980.

Totally serious question: where would his Les Paul have been made? And how -- by hand or on an assembly line? I wonder if craftsmanship 30 years ago is anything different than today.

Cause if the elves have retired, it might not be as easy to find one with a similar sound.
