Hits Daily Double Grammy voting update

Hits Daily Double is a resource that many people in, close to, or just interested in, the music industry goes to get information on what's happening. So these are not your average uninformed consumers out there. Here is an article updating the grammy poll that they are holding.

Kick-Ass Polkas Kicking Ass, Too

February 13, 2002

As Grammy party invitations keep trickling in and there's a break in coverage of Olympic curling, this seems like a good time to check in on the HITS Grammy survey. Either that, or it's a good time to go home early and get a head start on that box of wine in the fridge.
We care what you, our loyal readers (and we use that word loosely) think, and the ongoing Grammy poll is no exception. Since you're obviously tired of reading our opinions, here's the latest on the nominees your fellow "readers" believe are going to be taking home Grammys two weeks from today:

U2's All That You Can't Leave Behind is winning by a landslide in the Album of the Year category with 66% of the vote, followed by Bob Dylan's Love and Theft at 13%, and O Brother Where Art Thou? at 12%. India.Arie's Acoustic Soul and OutKast's Stankonia trail with 7% and 3%, respectively. OutKast is well out in front in the Best Rap Album category with 57%.

Alicia Keys remains the front-runner in four categories: "Fallin'" has 52% of the vote in both Song of the Year and Record of the Year slots. She has more than 73% of the Best New Artist votes and she leads in the Best R&B Album, where her Songs in A Minor has opened up a 12% lead over Aaliyah.

U2 continues to dominate the Best Rock Album category with 65%, while Linkin Park's Hybrid Theory is a distant second with 26% of the vote.

The closest race is in the Producer of the Year category. Dr. Dre leads with 28%, followed by T Bone Burnett (26%), Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis (23%), Radiohead/Travis producer Nigel Godrich (13%) and Nelly Furtado helmers Gerald Eaton & Brian West (9%). The competition in this one is so intense, even our own Grammy expert, Paul Grein, recently changed his pick from Jam & Lewis to O Brother's T Bone. (To view Grein's picks, click here.)

Finally, in the closely watched Best Polka Album category, Brave Combo's Kick-Ass Polkas is beating Walter Ostanek & His Band's Happy Times by the slimmest of margins—one vote as of 1:29 p.m. PST.

To cast your vote, e-mail grammysurvey@hitsmag.com. You'll even be entered to win something fabulous from DreamWorks Records and HITS.

And no, Arthur Andersen is not tabulating the ballots. If you're still reading this, your job is more boring than ours.

I wonder about the some of the other categories, like "best performance for a group" or whatever they call it. They should run away with that as well.
