Has anyone heard the new version of Velvet Dress?

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.

I read that Bono had rerecorded Velvet with another group..its supposed to sound more like jazz then U2..........has anyone heard it yet?

Keep trying it, martha. It takes long but in the end it you wil lhear it - it took me half an hour for figuring it out.

And me loves it.

The sound quality isn?t that good but from what I?ve heard it sounds impressive. Right on Rafmed ! for seeing the similarity with Two Shots?I?m not that familiar with jazz music but these other songs strike me as having a jazz feel.

Two Shots Of Happy One Shot Of Sad
Never Let Me Go ? edit out opening narration
Hallelujah ? Bono ? Tribute To Leonard Cohen album
Satellite Of Love (Danny Saber Mix) Duet: Bono & Milla Jovovich Drums: Larry
Stay - Craig Armstrong version

This summer Bono recorded a cover of Frank Sinatra?s That?s Life for the film The Good Thief. I imagine it will have a jazz feel. Hopefully it?ll be released on the soundtrack album. The lyrics have a similiarity with the lyrics of Two Shots?.

THAT'S LIFE

Writer(s): Kay/Gordon

That's life - that's what all the people say
You're ridin' high in April, shot down in May
But I know I'm gonna change that tune
When I'm back on top, back on top in June

I say, that's life, and as funny as it may seem
Some people get their kicks steppin' on a dream
But I don't let it, let it get me down
Cause this fine old world, it keeps spinning around

I've been a puppet, a pauper, a pirate, a poet - a pawn and a king
I've been up and down and over and out - and I know one thing:
Each time I find myself flat on my face

I pick myself up and get back in the race
That's life - I tell you - I can't deny it:
I thought of quittin', baby, but my heart just ain't gonna buy it
And if I didn't think it was worth one single try
I'd jump right on a big bird an then I'd fly

I've been a puppet, a pauper, a pirate, a poet - a pawn and a king
I've been up and down and over and out - and I know one thing:
Each time I find myself, laying flat on my face
I just pick myself up and get back in the race

That's life. that's life, and I can't deny it:
Many times I thought of cuttin' out, but my heart won't buy it
But if there's nothing shakin' come this here July
I'm gonna roll myself up in a big ball...
And die
My, my

Conversation On A Bar Stool ? written: Bono & The Edge ? originally for Marianne Faithful who recorded it on her 1998 A Perfect Stranger double album (4:15) ? also recorded by Hazel O?Connor on her 1995 Private Wars album (?) - first recorded by Annie Ross on the Short Cuts Soundtrack in 1993 ? Produced by Hal Willner who also produced The Million Dollar Hotel Soundtrack (5:45)

Annie Ross? version is a slow jazz-like song ? it starts off with only her vocals and a piano gently playing ? drums quietly come in at 1:30 and continue for the remainder of the song ? there?s a 30 second trumpet solo at 3:00 and it continues in the background for the rest of it ? a beautiful piece ? hopefully somebody with the technical know how can put a mp3 of it here. Produced by Hal Willner who also produced The Million Dollar Hotel Soundtrack. I found a used copy at a used CD in my first search last year. I would really like to hear Marianne Faithful?s version.

CONVERSATION ON A BARSTOOL

I'm tired, so tired I can hardly stand
I can't breath in the air in this city tonight
It's taken everything I had to give
And now, I just want to get out of here

But I won't be sorry if you won't be
And I don't want your pity or sympathy
But for forty five dollars I can make it
You wait and see

(He came from Miami to start out again
I hear that he's back with his mother ill
He told me he loved me and he wanted my child
But you know people change their minds) *

But I won't sorry if you won't be
And I don't want your pity or sympathy
But with forty five dollars I can make it
You wait and see

But I won't sorry if you won't be
And I don't want your pity or your sympathy
But with forty five dollars I can make it
You wait and see

It isn't as if I was just anybody
On Broadway I danced for that Senator
They know me in London and they know me in Paris
I'm only talking because you look like you needed a friend

But I won't sorry if you won't be
And I don't want your pity or your sympathy
But with forty five dollars I'm halfway
To Miami

*(Lyrics not included on her version but they are included on Annie Ross? version)

These songs may not have much of a jazz sound but I?m thinking of adding them to fill out a CD-R. I?m interested in hearing other?s opinions.

This is good, really good :D

As sphere pointed out there is a link to download the sampler from www.u2guatemala.com. It?s not in the download section though neither is mp3, but wma file, 215 KB, kinda crap but even so worth to check. You must look for the lines below in the news section if you don?t read in spanish:

Francisco Ramos de Chile nos env?a un sampler formato Windows Media (1:50) de la versi?n de IF YOU WEAR THAT VELVET DRESS de Bono con la orquesta de Jools Holland.

Go and get it. ;)

I love it. I think the boys need to get back together with the B.B. King Orchestra and see what else sounds good with horns...

I can't wait to hear Bono's cover of "That's Life."

or maybe..was it good for you dear? :D

Well it's sure as hell quite different from the original. I think the mood and atmosphere of the original are more sexy and in the vein of stuff I like, but the new version is still pretty awesome, and it seems to really fit the song.
