...like media mogul and complete tw#t Rupert Murdoch. While your there Bono can you ask the Aussie bast#rd if the English can watch there OWN Cricket team on national tv and not have to pay subscription money to an Aussie's shite tv company. Oh how the mighty have fallen!

U know, Bono HAS said that despite the MANY differences and disagreements between him and W, he does genuinely like the man, and thinks he's a good person.

If Bono said that it must be true then.

Smart ass. I'm just making a point. People are always screaming, "How could he hang with him or her, etc...." and when it comes to W, he's been clear on how he feels about the guy, so it should be a non-issue.

Oh, you have to watch your cricket team on pay TV? Welcome to NZ. Except it isn't just the cricket. Its rugby, football, league....there's just about nothing live on free to air.

lol, of ALL the Murdoch crimes to pick...

^ :D

Oh and by the way, Murdoch is now a naturalised US citizen.

Being Australian just didn't get him enough tax breaks, or something.

There's something about Bono presenting at Murdoch's annual sales meeting (that's effectively what it is) that sits uncomfortably with me more than rubbing shoulders with Bush or anybody else.
I assume he is going in with a mission, rather than be paid to come in and give a 'motivational' speech.. if that's the case he should get back to the day job.

I don't think he accepts payments for his speeches.

LOL, this is his day job. the band is his evening gig ;) and anyway, it sits more comfortably with me to see him "lecturing" at events such as this - that's what spreading a message is all about, not preaching to the converted.

I see and agree with your point... I just have issue with anything to do with Murdoch!

My guess if that he probably has a speaker's fee of around $200-250k per appearance booked through his agency. This is based on the sales estimate of his ticketed events. For example, when he spoke in DC to ASAE, that was part of a series of several speakers(including Larry King) over many weeks. But for Bono's speech only, ASAE sold $95 tickets to the public (around 3000).

This may not be important to anyone other than Cricket fans in England but Test Matches in England were forever shown on FTA television. So for Englands matches to only be available on pay tv, and worse than that, an AUSTRALIANS pay tv company just pisses me off big time. Still as long as there are fuc#ing idiots that are quite prepared to pay the Australian £40 a month for the privilege of watching our national team then nothing will ever change. So to see Bono rubbing shoulders with such an asshole and others similar, kinda shows how far Bono has fallen. Still he is running for US president though isn't he?

Pah bullshit. These are the same people Bono was ringing up and taking the piss out of 13/14 years ago on the Zoo TV shows. Not socialising and having drinks after the show with these people!

I don't see how pissing these people up would do anything good to Bono's causes. He's into politics now and that's the way politics works. I guess this cause is more important than showing some revolutionary asshole attitude in order to please his fans.

He already has, Murdoch owns the world! Certainly runs most of Europe that is for sure. His TV companies are taking over everywhere!

I'd say it is. We all have to rub shoulders with assholes and work with them on pretty much a daily basis in order to get things done, that's life. If Bono doing things like that upsets people that much, I guess they can just boycott his music or something. Personally I have no belief that I have any say in what he does or who he hangs around with. But when I consider the big picture, it doesn't bother me as much. Maybe Bono even rubs shoulders once in a while with some fans who are......

He's a human being with free will, and I have to admire his ability to dance with the devil in order to get his goals accomplished. I wouldn't be too sure that he always sees the best in people, but I also admire his ability to do so. I don't know how he holds on to that- especially considering the places he has been, the people he has met, the horrors he has seen.

I thought the organizations charge the prices, not Bono/his agency. I saw him speak in March for $150, and I'm sure a huge majority went to the event itself. It was a VERY fancy dinner at a VERY swanky place and I'm amazed it was only $150 a seat. When you made your estimate,m how did you figure the cost of putting on the event/reserving the venue?

I thought I read somewhere that he doesn't receive any money for speaking.

Don't believe that rock 'n' roll
Can really change the world...........

...Heard a singer on the radio late last night
He says he's gonna kick the darkness
'til it bleeds daylight
I...I believe in love

It's not enough to be the punk-ass rock'n'roll star. If you really want to make a real change, you've got to kick the shit out of the darkness 'til it bleeds daylight. The only way to do that is to step right up to darkness itself.

I can't imagine the DC hotel ballroom and ushers costing more than $10-20k to reserve for one evening. That same DC ballroom is used by local companies for holiday parties. I can see him speaking for free at events for public officials like the National Prayer Breakfast, but I can't see him giving what amounts to a $200k gift to the organizations (which frequently represent big businesses) just by showing up. For the Dallas event, there were even corporate sponsors like ExxonMobil in addition to ticket revenue. Also, Larry King's fee is $50k, and the tickets were cheaper on average - but maybe my initial estimate is high for Bono.
