The opening line of Crumbs, along with the guitar does it for me, the way Bono's voice rises during "From the brightest star comes the blackest hole" is great.

I also thought it was ATE, not hate.......

"you ate all of your friends" might be the worst lyric in any U2 song......Crumbs is a fantastic song otherwise...but that lyric just ruins it. All of my friends were like great song then they heard that...

Yeah, it's definitely 'ate'. There's no 'h' sound whatsoever, not even a soft one.

Personally, I love the line thanks to an inside joke I have with some of my friends. I just about snorted something out of my nose when I first read "ate all your friends."

BEST LINE IN A SONG EVER!!!

No other song would dare use such an emotionally charged phrase. In fact, this lyric takes me to a place I've never been, to a jungle in South America where some cannibal tribe lives on, despite the cultural revolution going on outside of their isolated world. It's even making me hungry!

YES! especially the way Bono sings "depart" BRILLIANT

however the absolute best line for me has got to be "A house doesn't make a home/Don't leave me here alone" from Sometimes...everytime I hear that line I tear up. It makes me want to go hug my mom and dad and grandpa and grandma and everyone and tell them I love them no matter what (I know that sounds horribly cheesy), and I really, really, really get the strong desire to hug Bono and never let go...I can sense his sorrow in that line... it's almost as if he's begging "please, don't die, don't leave me alone..." I know that if any one of my parents or even grandparents died I would be so completely lost (and I guess grandparents is something I'll have to deal with soon...hopefully not too soon.) something about that line just HITS me.
