I love this song, but I've come to realize I know shockingly little about it. Does anyone know the following:

1) Was the song recorded at Slane or in the studio?
2) What is that song that is sampled in the background, right at the start?
3) Who plays the piano? Edge, Eno, or Bono?

And your opinion please:

4) Should Endless Deep be considered an instrumental?

Thanks!

:(
I dont know the answers to your top 3 questions! It's at times like this u realise - you're not as knowledgable on the band as you first thought!

BUT - I've always considered it as a sort of instrumental. The start of the song always sends a shiver down my spine too!

Me too! This song is rapidly becoming one of my all-time favorite B-sides.

I'll admit to you tho, I hadn't listened to it for maybe going on a year or so, until recently, cos of the name game! I kept typing in 'Endlees Deep' when thinking of sth that began with E, and then suddenly thought - how the hell does song even go now?!

Since then, it's been on and off my shuffle quite regularly!

Recorded at Slane? It's from the War era, so no.

And no, it's not an instrumental in my opinion.

I thought it was from UF...shows what I know! See, I'm glad I asked these questions.

Endless Deep appeared as a b-side for both Sunday Bloody Sunday and Two Hearts Beat As One, so yeah, it's a 1983 pre-Eno song. A little prophetic of future sounds, though!

I didn't hear this song till I bought the 80's Best of.

1) studio
2) there is a sample of a song?
3) my guess would be Edge
4) I consider it an instrumental.
