Hmm...this has to be the hardest. Here goes nothing!

1)The Fly
2)Bad
3)One Tree Hill (from the Lovetown shows)
4)Ultraviolet
5)11 O'Clock Tick Tock

let's add a rule so you can put 6-10 too

6)Mysterious Ways
7)One
8)Bullet the Blue Sky
9)With or Without You
10)Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me

I could probably go through 100 songs!

This is really, really hard and I'm not sure if I can make a fair list but I'll give it a shot.

1. The Electric Co.
2. Until The End Of The World
3. Where The Streets Have No Name
4. One
5. Bullet The Blue Sky (Live)

6. The Fly
7. With Or Without You
8. I Will Follow
9. All I Want Is You
10. HM,TM,KM,KM

..... so many more missing. The man is a genius.

hmmm...for the Best Of 90-00 Edge said he didn't think The Fly had stood the test of time, so its a pretty safe bet he doesn't think of it as one of his greatest songs...

In no particular order:

Pride
Wire
Gone
All I Want Is You
The Ground Beneath Her Feet
Ultraviolet
The First Time (simple but perfect)
Bad
UTEOTW
WTSHNN

...But, as you say, the Edge has so many good songs...

Bullet the Blue Sky
Acrobat
The Fly
Until the End of the World
WOWY
All I Want Is You
God Part II
In God's Country
Pride
Sunday Bloody Sunday

in no particular order

SBS
The Fly
I Will Follow
God Part II
Wire
Gone
Mysterious Ways
HM, TM, KM, KM
UTEOTW
Streets

Why Pride? Or Bad?

I could play Pride a month after I first picked up a guitar. Sure, it's damn memorable, but it consists of an easy repeating riff and a solo of 3 notes.

Bad doesn't even have a solo. Bad is simple 2/3 note riffs. Easy.

I assume we are discussing top 5 songs in terms of Edge's playing.

I'd have to say then:

1.) Bullet the Blue Sky (have you ever tried to play this?)
2.) Until the End of the World (3 solos!)
3.) The Fly (still awesome after all this time)
4.) 11 O'Clock Tick Tock
5.) Mysterious Ways

What DaveC said on Pride & Bad, I like the songs but it aint Edge's best work.

My favs would be:

Bullet the Blue Sky
The Fly
Mysterious Ways
Until the End of the World
Like a song

Honorable mention:

Acoustic Stuck- good playing doesn't have to be cranked up to 11, I can't listen to the album version anymore.
Desire- sure he copped the riff from Bo Didley, but it's timeless.
Even Better than the real thing

Dishonorable mention:

Love is Blindness- didn't anyone tell him his amp was shorting out, good thing it's the last track.

1) The Fly
2) Where the Streets Have No Name (especially the opening)
3) Until the End of the World
4) Bullet in the Blue Sky
5) Gone

There really are too many to pick from.

Acrobat, Acrobat, Acrobat....listen to the song and tune out Bono's vocals (hard to do)...WOW!! There's a reason they didn't play this song live.

Edges Best Work....in no paticular order

1. Acrobat
2. Love is Blindness (Live)
3. Bullet Blue Sky
4. Where the Streets...
5. Discotheque (very cool riff, the "Love to move you part" is amazing.)

Edges Best Work....in no paticular order

1. Acrobat
2. Love is Blindness (Live)
3. Bullet Blue Sky
4. Where the Streets...
5. Discotheque (very cool riff, the "Love to move you part" is amazing.)

There are so many more

Even Better Than the Real Thing
Until the End of the World

Come to think of it Aucthung Baby is some of Edge's best work. Maybe thats why its my favorite album..

:hmm: my favorite Edge songs in no particular order

1. With or without you
2. All I want is you
3. Mysterious ways
4. Until the end of the world
5. The fly
6. Ultraviolet
7. Stay
8. Discotheque
9. Gone
10. Kite/In a little while

also God part II, Heartland, Desire, Even better than the real thing, If you wear that velvet dress, New York.

It's not about playing. It's about creating.
And about the number of notes... isn't the edge minimalist?

I owe you a galloping headbutt for that comment, my friend };)~

maybe it's because I'm more into the bass and drums reverberating within my ribcage... after a bad day, I'll just slap on the headphones and listen to Love Is Blindness over and over again at full volume... the guitar work on that song just speaks to me...

other Edge work I like (for no particular reason, these are just songs I think of when I think of the geetar):
If You Wear That Velvet Dress - simple, easy, relaxing, just like the rest of the song
Exit - again, fits the song perfectly
In a Little While - great melody, playful as an otter }:)~

eh, that's enough...

Well, I'm not a guitarist - I'm a drummer. But how's this?:

Studio:
Bullet the Blue Sky
Until the End of the World
Acrobat
The Fly
All I Want Is You

Live:
Bullet the Blue Sky (Zoo TV)
11 O'Clock Tick Tock
The Fly (Zoo TV)
The Electric Co.
Love is Blindness (Zoo TV)

:)

i remember reading an interview where edge said that the closing notes of 'with or without you' is the best music he ever created

Wasn't that an interview from the 'Making of The Joshua Tree' DVD? In that video, Edge actually demonstrates how he played 'With or Without You'. He seemed very proud of how simple - yet effective - the closing of 'With or Without You' is... He was grinning from ear to ear (and rightly so!). :D

Edge's best work? I personally think that the best is yet to come but until then...
1. Until the end of the world
2. Acrobat
3. One tree hill - any and all live versions - the edge rocks
4. Where the streets have no name - genius even if it is played all the time - always fresh (except for an upsetting time I heard the song played on musac (sp?)
5. Spanish Eyes

personal favs
6. Red Hill Mining town - Minimal but powerful
7. Tomorrow
8. With or without you - Rattle and hum version
9. In a little while - very sexy - especially boston elevation version
10. Mysterious ways - my absolute favorite song of any band and era

hugs

Yeah, I probably deserve one since I'm pretty much a guitar dilettante but that is about the only U2 song I can think of where I think Edge's playing detracts from the song more than it adds to it. I'd like to hear the live versions others have posted as a favorite though, it may change my mind (probably not on the AB version though).

I know even less about the bass but I've always loved Adam's playing, especially on Zooropa.

the fly
is that all
gloria
zoo station
ultraviolet
a sort of homecoming
where the streets....
desire
when i look at the world
beautiful day

Hmm ...

I'm going by live performances seeing I haven't listened to studio stuff in ages.

11 O'clock Tick Tock
Bullet The Blue Sky
The Cry/The Electric Co.
Love Is Blindness
Discotheque

I play these songs over and over before debating (I'm a third speaker, which means I specialise in rebuttal, so I need to be bloody PUMPED before a debate) and Edge's guitar is what really gets me going;
Until The End Of The World (16 August 1992)
I Will Follow (13 December 1981)
Mofo (23 September 1997)
Even Better Than The Real Thing (28 August 1997)
