Leonard Cohen - Mysterious Ways - do it with his usual standard keyboard and drum loop and backing singers. Could sound cool.

Chris Isaak - Your Blue Room - very stripped down, his haunting guitar playing.

David Bowie - Love Your like Mad - already sounds like a Bowie song, why not?

Oasis - Last Night On Earth. Just to hear Liam and Noel go at it on the chorus would be stellar!

Travis - Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own. I think Fran's voice would be amazing on that song.

Andrea Coor - Electrical Storm. Don't know why, but I think she could do a good job with this.

Elvis Costello - So Cruel. Would kill to hear him do this, acoustic guitar, Larry on drums.

What about you, homeslice?

I've heard Counting Crows used to do Red Hill Mining Town, so I'd love to hear that.

add some random "SHHH-YIIIIIIIINE" s and I'm with you on this one.

The Smashing Pumpkins - Please, Hold Me Thrill Me Kiss Me Kill Me

Radiohead - Running to Stand Still, If God Will Send His Angels

Coldplay (sans falsetto) - The First Time

R.E.M. - All I Want is You, Drowning Man

Pearl Jam - Gone, Until the End of the World

Bruce Springsteen - Bad, With or Without You

Franz Ferdinand - An Cat Dubh / Into the Heart

Oasis - Walk On

you don't think Thom could do a solemn version of this song, and it rises at the end like Exit Music?

that's how I see it

How about this: NO ONE. Cover songs are evil 99% of the time, particularly from personal and emotional songs from artists like U2 come on. "One" is such a personal song, any stupid teenager who thinks MJB's "version" of it is well...stupid haha.

But sometimes you get that 1% that is good.
maybe one of these could be that 1%

Andrea Corr - With Or Without You

Beautiful girl though she is, i wouldnt let her near any U2 song. She'd make it sound as bland and shite as anything from her own band!
