well they originally said they have no plans to release it on dvd, but i can't imagine they will never eventually make the cross over....so it's sort of up in the air right now, but don't expect a dvd anytime soon regardless

I red somewhere that there won't be a DVD release as long as TVs don't have the capacity of playing 3D images...

is not as simple as un-focusing the image and putting a pair of ugly glasses

The Shrek 3D short film was also released on dvd (the same as the one shown at Universal Studios). The effects are decent on a large tv screen, in a pitch black room.
