One of the great luxuries we now have with mp3 players and such, is the ability 2 xtend and re-arrange albums in2 the order we see fit. Some people don't believe in it, but I find it fun.

IMHO, Achtung Baby is U2's masterpiece, and is basically PERFECT.... but do U have a playlist with an xtended version, (including the outtakes), or with alternate takes, or a different running order that you'd like to share? Just an alternate playlist 2 have on the side?

I'm interested in seeing what U guys come up with....

HTDAAB

01 - Yahweh
02 - Vertigo
03 - All Because Of You
04 - Miracle Drug
05 - Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own
06 - One Step Closer
07 - Crumbs From Your Table
08 - City Of Blinding Lights
09 - Original Of The Species
10 - A Man And A Woman
11 - Love And Peace Or Else

I once had an AMAZING AB running order

all I remember is

01 - Even Better Than The Real Thing
02 - The Fly
03 - Mysterious Ways

Achtung Baby and The Joshua Tree are two masterpieces that shouldn't be touched in any way. The same can be said for The Unforgettable Fire, even though many say its second half is a bit weak.

the second half of the UF is weak i think, but then again the first half is arguably the best 1st half of an album they have ever done apart from the JT.

I once had a great double disc tracklisting for Achtung Baby, but then I realised that some of the B-sides do not go very well with the album quality-wise! :(

I often use this alternative track order, based on Zoo TV:

Zoo Station
The Fly
Even Better Than The Real Thing
Mysterious Ways
One
Until The End Of The World
Who's Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses
Tryin' To Throw Your Arms Around The World
So Cruel
Ultraviolet (Light My Way)
Acrobat
Love Is Blindness

So Bad-Indian Summer Sky-EPAA-MLK is weak? NO.

Achtung is their PERFECT ALBUM...

i cannot fathom changing the tracklisting at all, and i love making alternate tracklistings for albums.... especially U2 albums...

as far as the b sides go... i have always thought that the b sides didn't matter during those sessions because there was something bigger going on...

the tracklist was there, and the songs that needed to be on the album were written, and as far as additional material, it was unneccessary...

alex decends wasn't intended for Achtung
salome doesn't fit
where did it all go wrong is a demo
satellite of love is a cover
paint it black & fortunate son are covers and (sorry to say) aren't that great anyway...

lady with the spinning head (extended dance mix) is really the only b side of note here, but:
a. it wouldn't fit anyway &
b. it became THE FLY & Ultraviolet, so it wouldn't work (though it is fun to listen to all 3 of those songs in a row just to hear the similarities)

Achtung Baby is and forever shall be the most perfect album I have ever heard.

period.

I only listen to "The Reconstructed Joshua Tree" now.

1. U2 - Where The Streets Have No Name (5:37)
2. U2 - Silver And Gold (4:39)
3. U2 - I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For (4:38)
4. U2 - Spanish Eyes (3:16)
5. U2 - With Or Without You (4:56)
6. U2 - Luminous Times (4:33)
7. U2 - Walk To The Water (4:48)
8. U2 - Bullet The Blue Sky (4:31)
9. U2 - Running To Stand Still (4:18)
10. U2 - Red Hill Mining Town (4:53)
11. U2 - Race Against Time (4:04)
12. U2 - In God's Country (2:56)
13. U2 - Trip Through Your Wires (3:32)
14. U2 - Sweetest Thing (3:03)
15. U2 - One Tree Hill (5:22)
16. U2 - Deep In The Heart (4:30)
17. U2 - Exit (4:13)
18. U2 - Mothers Of The Disappeared (5:13)

I think you can delete Acrobat and the album doesn't suffer. There's a reason they've never played it live, you know...

*runs for cover*

how about we delete you!

Achtung Baby is seriously weak with its current track order. However, if the following were the tracklist, it would be my #3 album behind UF and JT.

1. Zoo Station
2. Until The End Of The World
3. The Fly
4. Even Better Than The Real Thing
5. Mysterious Ways
6. Lady With The Spinning Head
7. Where Did It All Go Wrong?
8. Who's Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses
9. Slow Dancing
10. Wild Irish Rose
11. Alex Descends Into Hell For A Bottle Of Milk/Korova 1
12. Acrobat
13. Love Is Blindness

I think it's the weakest song, and not necessarily as tightly connected to the broken relationship theme as the other songs. Also, as we've seen on the second Best of, Even better than the real thing isn't a bad opener.

 Just speculating.

If there is a song on AB that I could easily dispense with, it is indeed Zoo Station. I'm not even sure I would call it a song.

I like Zoo Station:up: not my favorite on the album...but it has its place.

I love this part...

Time is a train
Makes the future the past
Leaves you standing in the station
Your face pressed up against the glass

its so true.

well, U2girl's idea wasn't nearly as bad as the turd Axver just dropped in this thread.

Ha!

Though go on, tell me how it's even remotely worse than the original. I see it has a number of bonuses:

1. More cohesive flow.
2. Wild Irish Rose.
3-6. No One, So Cruel, TTTYAATW, Ultra Violet.

No So Cruel? One?! ULTRAVIOLET?!

I think you covered why it's worse than the original yourself.

Awful, awful post...adding weaker songs just detracts from the established quality of the album, (also 'spinning head for ultraviolet doesn't work as it has too much of The Fly in it, and its not got the right mood for such a melancholy album)also the tracklist is amazing the way it is.

"seriously weak"??

Also, Zoo Station is essential to creating the feel of AB right at the start..none of the other songs would accomplish this quite as well. Another thing..how is Zoo Station "not a song"? (I'm not even going to mention Axver's omission of One;))

I didn't even need to read the rest of the thread because this post is perfect.

I wouldn't touch Pop either, cuz that's my muthafuckin album.

How is Zoo Station not a song? If you don't think ZS is a song you probably didn't take to Passengers too well... or Radiohead's Kid A

Zoo Station is a tight opener. It's not epic like Streets, but as Sleep Over Jack said it's essential to create the mood and no other track could accomplish that as well as Zoo.

I listen to that Reconstructed JT all the time, and it's killer

Achung Baby is a story, not an album of songs. Zoo Station in many ways is a perfect opener, all that "Letting go of the steering wheel" stuff isn't just about the band, but very much about the guy who is about to let himself slip into temptation etc. Starting with Even Better is a a crap idea. Having the introduction to the state of mind is a great opener, especially with him acting on it on the very next track. Some links between the songs are sketchy, some maybe are out of place in some ways, but still work perfectly in others. I dunno, I wouldn't fucking touch the thing. It's not that kind of album. And if any of you dare suggest a tracklist that doesn't have Trying To Throw on immediately after Mysterious Ways, you clearly haven't listened to Achtung Baby.
