Zooropa has always been considered a sort of extension to Achtung Baby, so I thought it would be interesting to see how the albums would do if combined into one. Unfortunately, cuts have to be made. The mission: make a 12 track combo album. Order matters! Here's mine:
1. Zooropa
2. The Fly
3. One
4. Even Better Than The Real Thing
5. Numb (New Mix)
6. Stay (Far Away, So Close!)
7. So Cruel
8. Until The End Of The World
9. Mysterious Ways
10. Acrobat
11. Love Is Blindness
12. The First Time
And it was called: Zootung.
Sheesh. That took about 25 minutes to do. I snagged both albums from my iTunes library and started rearranging them inside of a playlist, listening to snippets of each song as I changed around the arrangement, seeing which would work best with each other. I don't know if I'm completely satisfied with the order, but upon listen, it seems to flow relatively well. Zooropa just strikes me as a better opening track than Zoo Station. I like Zoo Station, don't get me wrong, but Zooropa has just stood up better. It's like trying to compare between two children you love. I thought Numb was a nice follow up to EBTTRT, and I kind of went a bit outside the boundaries by choosing the new mix, but it's such a fuller, more complete mix of the song I just couldn't settle for the original. I hope you'll let that one slide. 'Stay' and 'So Cruel' sound as though they were always meant to go side by side, and UTEOTW is a nice follow up to that couplet of songs. Mysterious Ways lightens things up again before plunging against into darkness with Acrobat and Love Is Blindness. The First Time is a perfect album closer, especially after Love Is Blindness.
Whew!
Your turn, guys.
