which one is their best song for a nasty breakup?

I mean the i-will-survive-kind,
not the I'm-so-sorry-for-myself-kind?

any suggestions?

Ha, I remember when I broke up with a girlfriend at Uni..

I moped around to Dirty Day for weeks.

U2 love songs are more the "i feel so sorry foe myself" than the "I will Survive" type, but I'm a miserable bastard so that suits me fine.

I suppose Beautiful Day is the closest they get. That's all about losing everything you have and then realising that you didn't need that stuff anyway and are all the happier for realising that. You could easily transfer that to getting dumped and then realising that you don't need her/him and that you will soon find somebody better anyway.

exactly-- i think its the "to stay with you/ I'd be a fool" bit in So Cruel...

and for us --Sometimes Miserable Bastards:
"if you hold on to something so tight/you've already lost it"
(depressed version of the same thing)
wheres this one from?--my brain hurts. dirty day?

How about "Gone"?

It's a great tune and something you can sing, or preferably, shout to let out some steam after a break-up.

"And what you leave behind you don't miss anyway "

"And I'm already gone
Felt that way all along
Closer to you every day
Didn't want it that much anyway"

"Then you discover...
What you thought was freedom is just greed
Goodbye... no emotional goodnight
I'll be up with the sun
Are you still holding on
I'm not coming down
I'm not coming down"

The best - Who's Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses!
hm, I'm not sure--has a bit of self-pity...

But "And what you leave behind you don't miss anyway " is really good--
also "what you lose/you don't need" of something like that from Always.
Always is a good song for anything like that--tho maybe a bit too optimistic

Walk On and Beautiful Day would get you inspired to get back on your feet.

Gone overall is the best, and Dirty Day is excellent too.

Okay, yeah, Who's Gonna Ride isn't of the "hooray, time to move on to better things" variety... it is more of the mopey kind. But I think it's so good it overcomes that and is more than just a mopey song.

I don't think 'Who's Gonna Ride' is mopey. It's more at a point of acceptance. It's not 'f*ck you' either though, and it's a pretty specific type of relationship and specific type of girl.

Yep!

I was about to say those!

rather than dwell upon the sadness, walk on is good cuz it's uplifting and it will get you through.
"just leave it behind"
=)

"I love you cause I need to
Not because I need you"

yes, that sums it up really.
love is almost independent of its object.

the "whos gonna take the place of me" bit makes it mopey for me in Who's gonna ride... and the "dont turn around" bit makes it more like that.

Walk on is perfect--and yesterday i tried Pride... its great for a walk outside and to just enjoy the energy.
