And the story:

March 15, 2002 -- WASHINGTON - Rock star Bono wore blue sunglasses into the Oval Office to see President Bush yesterday and found what he was looking for - a $5 billion pledge to fight world poverty.
The U2 lead singer said he saw no need to doff his stylish trademark shades inside the White House, adding mischievously, "I thought the president looked at them quite jealously."

But Bono - who did wear a black suit out of respect - didn't offer his shades to Bush as a souvenir, quipping that the last time he did that, Pope John Paul II walked off with them, and this pair was too pricey to risk.

All kidding aside, it was a serious visit with Bono - a crusader against AIDS, hunger and Third World debt - reporting that Bush agrees AIDS is "genocide" and much more must be done to fight it around the world.

He said Bush is ready to hike anti-AIDS funds - "He just wants to see that the programs are efficient."

Bono's warm words for Team Bush were in sharp contrast to the jabs of ridicule from Hollywood types like Alec Baldwin, Cher, Barbra Streisand and "West Wing" creator Aaron Sorkin.

Bono rode with Bush in his limo to hear the president pledge $5 billion in new aid for poor nations - with the caveat that they must respect human rights, fight corruption and educate their people.

Bush hailed Bono in his speech, saying he's such a good anti-poverty lobbyist that "Dick Cheney walked into the Oval Office and said [arch conservative Sen.] ?Jesse Helms wants us to listen to Bono's idea.' "

OK, it seems that there are two of us that are starting to think alike so rather than duplicate, can a mod delete this?
