By explode i mean live songs that start out soft with just a backing track, or just 1 or 2 members of the band playing before the whole band joins in.

My Top 3 are:

Streets
Sunday Bloody Sunday (Rattle and Hum)
God Part II

what do you all think?

Good choices. I'll add a few.

Where the Streets Have No Name
Sunday Bloody Sunday (Rattle and Hum version)
Elevation (Vertigo Tour)
City of Blinding Lights
God Part II
Beautiful Day (sort of - everything is held back anyway)
The Cry/The Electric Co.

talking about live songs....

UNTIL THE END OF THE WORLD

best live u2 song ever , no song even comes close.

It explodes in a similar way to Beautiful Day.

That is my favorite U2 song.

But isn't that what you're asking for in this thread?

Did you read his first post?

Love and peace or else..sort of. Takes a while to properly begin, but as soon as larrys mean drum part kicks in the whole arena/stadium explodes.
And elevation on the vertigo tour. Love that!

^ yes

exit is a very good example of those live u2 songs that build and build and build up to a gigantic climax. other good songs like this are:

hawkmoon 269
WOWY
Running to Stand Still
All I want is You

Agreed.

Don't hate me 4 this but even the way they played "Stuck.." on this tour, going from the acoustic to full band version was great.

I agree with all the above..and add one more:

New York

It packs a late punch in a much different way than the others listed so far, but I have to say that I went from not liking it much on the album to loving it live.

i shown them to my mates.

^ thanks man, i saw the comment on the site. i guess i should update that pretty soon.

if only i had a better computer microphone.....

I'd say:

All I Want Is You - Elevation/Slane
The Fly - Zoo TV Outside Broadcast/Houston
Until The End Of The World - Zoo TV/Yankee Stadium
Streets - Superbowl performance
Please - Live at the MTV VMA's 1997
Bad - Wide Awake In America
WOWY - Rattle & Hum
Beautiful Day - Irving Plaza
Zoo Station - ZooEuropa - Dublin

I reckon they did this very well in the eighties. Credit of most of these songs or how they are performed should go to Larry.

Hawkmoon 269 - not their greatest song by any means but absolutely terrific in the way it builds up. You can't help getting caught up in the momentum of this song.

With or Without You - Climaxes in the final minute or so, and Edge's outro is just . If you ever preferred a simple guitar piece over a solo...

Running to Stand Still - No words needed. Live, especially ZooTV, this is performed flawlessly.

God Part II - Haven't hear it live, but this is fast becoming my favourite song off of Rattle and Hum. Thanks mostly to the part which goes:
"don't believe an uzi just went off in my hand
I, I believe in love
HUA HUA!"
[most kick-ass guitar part ever]
Screaming vocals

Live, I don't think you can beat ZooTV Running to Stand Still.

My thoughts exactly.

Badi think has a good build up, starts off with basic guitar, barely any base, light drum beat then second chorus is kicks off.
