Would like to know waht everybodys feels is the best re-working of u2 song live. I was cooking my sausages this morn, staring out my window (av got a view across a firth and can see for about 20 miles so its quite inspiring) anyhow, the zoo tv version of Running to a standstill entred my head. Also think Elevation's re jig of the fly was pretty cool.

Am really looking for songs that have quite a different feel to the original.

Kite on the Vertigo Tour was so superior to alreadt magnificent intimate Elevation version that it was mind-blowing. And I count myself as one of the luckiest peoples on earth, I was there to witness it.

Running to Stand Still on ZooTV was nothing short of absolutely spectacular, I don't think any version can compare with it. ZooTV also had the best Desire by far in my opinion.

Elevation also had terrific The Fly (Boston) and Edge absolutely kills on Bullet.

Zoo RTSS wins hands down, but Dirty Day deserves a mention, as does Bad, of course...

*thinks*

Took me a while to appreciate Pop Bullet, but it does kick some serious arse.

running-ZooTv
Desire-ZooTv
The Fly-Elevation
Kite-Vertigo
Elevation-Vertigo
WOWY-Vertigo (they go back to basics)

dont think there really can be anything else

1. Bad; easily from the "new" intro, to the injections of power and tempo that the album version doesn't have. It's just a totally different song. Any tour.

2. Desire - Zoo TV

3. Staring At The Sun (acoustic Popmart)

4. Bullet/RTSS - Zoo TV

5. Kite - Vertigo 5th leg - That extended solo...

6.

ZooTv Desire
I also loved the 'reinvented' The Fly from the Vertigo Tour
ZooStation Vertigo Tour
PopMart IWF
Does Miss Sarajevo count as a reinvention?

Another for Vertigo Discotheque... They should have kept playing that live.

Vertigo Fly too. Even though its more similar to the original than the Elevation version was, its still a lot better than the original ZooTV version. It's a lot more rocking.

Elevation from vertigo tour
Discotheque from Vertigo tour
The Fly from elevation
Sunday Bloody Sunday from POPmart

The Electric Co on Vertigo...god that was insane

I agree! That was the best moment of the Vertigo Tour... that solo

Bad - Live in general
The Fly - Vertigo (Elevation is WAAAAAAAAAAAAAY overrated - the guitar sounded terrible)
Bullet the Blue Sky - ZooTV
Running to Stand Still - ZooTV
Desire - ZooTV
Dirty Day - ZooTV
Stuck in a Moment - Vertigo Acoustic
Gone - Live in General
Elevation - Vertigo
Electric Co. - Live in general

And our winner ...

Mofo - Popmart

Best live updates of previous tunes for me would be:

Seconds - UF Tour
Bullet The Blue Sky - Popmart
Discotheque - Vertifo Tour (Will never understand why they dropped this)
Kite - Vertigo Tour Final Leg

Im sure there are more, but these are what popped in my head first.

Popmart Bullet wins by a mile. Acoustic stuck is great a well, and who would have thought Miami would rock out so much live? It's a bit (okay, a lot) weird on the album, but the live versions are amazing and Led Zepplin-y, almost.

Running to stand still Zoo TV
Sunday bloody sunday Popmart
The Fly Elevation/Kite Vertigo

Mainly acoustic re-interpretaations come to my mind, but not all of them. Here is a kind of 'Top 20':

1. Party Girl ('06)
2. Sunday Bloody Sunday ("Self Aid" '86)
3. A Sort Of Homecoming (acoustic '01)
4. Bad ('84/'85)
5. I Still Haven't Found ... (acoustic '92)
6. Running To Stand Still ('92/'93)
7. In God's Country (acoustic '01)
8. Mothers Of The Disappeared ('97/'98)
9. Desire ('89/'90)
10. Angel Of Harlem (acoustic '92/'93)
11. One ("Pavarotti & Friends" '95)
12. Stay ('93)
13. The First Time (acoustic '05/'06)
14. Staring At The Sun (acoustic '97/'98)
15. Last Night O Earth (later '97/'98)
16. Gone ('01)
17. Please ('97/'98)
18. Please (acoustic '01)
19. Walk On (acoustic '05/'06)
20. Yahweh (acoustic '05)

One Tree Hill (Lovetown)- Not bad on the album but something special happened when it was performed live on Lovetown.

Discotheque (Vertigo)- The album version lacks the feeling of a disco. The few times it was down on Vertigo seemed to capture what it was missing.
