Bono vocally - Achtung Baby or Joshua Tree
lyrically - Achtung Baby or The Unforgettable Fire
Edge - Achtung Baby
Adam - Pop or Achtung Baby
Larry - War or Achtung Baby

as you can see, in my opinion, I seem find Achtung to be a great album

:bono: Vocals-The Unforgettable Fire
Lyrics- Pop (don't hit me)
:adam: Pop
:edge: Pop
:larry: War

These choices are based more on effort then results, I do agree with U2 that the most consistant albums they've made are Achtung Baby, How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb, and the Joshua Tree, and Boy (in that order). Although my personal faves are The Unforgettable Fire, Pop, and most of War. If I were to rank U2's albums by how well they did what they set out to do it would be like this - (IMO)

Achtung Baby chop down the Joshua Tree
Boy create their own thing
The Joshua Tree erect the Joshua Tree
The Unforgettable Fire experiment
Zooropa experiment
War have a commercial sucess
October hold the band together
HtDaAB show the world what's up
ATYCLB short circuit ZOOTV
Pop create the next big thing
Rattle and Hum release a simple extras album

Bono - The Joshua Tree. A maturing, non-smoking 26-year-old at the height of his powers.

Edge - Achtung Baby. Innovative, crunchy, searing, yet retained elements of his classic sound.

Larry - War. This was his record.

Adam- Pop. The record required good bass playing, and he produced.
