Does anyone know what Bono's trying to sing in "Always"? Something like, "A soul needs a beautiful soul?"

Anyone know what I'm talking about? Any thoughts?

Well the the part I heard that comes closest is this line:
The soul needs beauty for a soul mate
Is that what you were talking about?

Yeah! That's what I was refering to...

It's odd that the U2 Lyrics Archive doesn't have "Always" lyrics webpage.

Yeah, that part of the song I can't quite make out. Those lyrics came from another U2 site that claims to have "official" lyrics. However, there are plenty of "official" lyrics that don't really sound right when you hear the song. Bono has a habit of scat singing, or improvising/skipping words.

One thing I've found, though, is that when certain songs are played live, he has to sing something, and I've compared lots of those type cases versus "official" lyrics, and sometimes they are right. For example, on ATYCLB, IALW, I really can't hear Bono say for sure "I won't be blown be every breeze". In fact, it sounds more like "I will blow by ever breeze...", which obviously doesn't make sense. However, on all the live versions I've got, the official lyric is exactly what he says. As for Always, I doubt we'll every hear it live.

Well, that's probably more than you wanted to know.

No, actually that's quite interesting. Thanks for the info. I guess we'll never know for *sure* what he's singing in Always. Even U2.com just copied and pasted the lyrics for Always from the U2 lyrics archive website. It's sorta ridiculous really that their official website has to copy and paste the lyrics from a fan website.

Ok, so Interference does have them... But not every index page has the link to that "Always" page, e.g. Chronological and Alphabetical listing...

Ohhhhhhhhh God I just discovered this song and

I LOVE IT

Its so........ohhhhhhhhhhh.

I love Edge's guitar, I love Larry's drums, I love the lyrics, I love the background vocals, I love the way Bono sings it... its a great song it should not be a B side.

It is a great song. One more lyric conflict, though. To me it sounds like Bono says "I'm going to the obvious place, the soul needs beauty for a soulmate." Who knows for sure.

u2 have such brilliant b-sides.

Always could not have possibly been on the album cause it's the song Beautiful Day originated from. Always was written first and then they got some of it and Beautiful Day was born, so they couldn't really put it in the album.

Same as Lady With The Spinning Head (One single B-side), it couldn't have possible been in Achtung Baby because The Fly and Ultra Violet originated from an early Lady With the Spinning Head version.
