The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.

Bono has repeatedly worked with people who many of the rest of us find distasteful, to say the least. Take Jesse Helms and Tony Blair for instance. Even his own bandmates have been less than happy about those relationships. But its easy for us to sit in our houses as fans and criticize the actions of others when they don't fit with our tastes or political beliefs. He's been willing to accept the flak that gets thrown his way because its for something he believes in. He's said himself that U2s music and his fame are the currency that he uses to make the world better, with the full knowledge and acceptance that a certain number of people will dislike it at some level or the other. He's seen parts of the world that most us are sheltered from, and he he knows that the good that can be done there is completely worth the crap he and the band might take. And I applaud him for that.

the whole BoA/U2 thing isn't getting a whole lot of attention online, it seems. seems like we're making the biggest deal of it here.

news outlets are simply saying that a new U2 charity single comes out 2/2.

music blogs don't really seem to be talking about anything U2-related..

Stereogum had a brief blurb that's no longer on the main page
nothing on Consequence of Sound
nothing on Paste
nothing on Pitchfork (who seem to have dropped reporting on them altogether. I don't they once mentioned OL)

Nothing to add to the conversation except this:

On Super Bowl Sunday, our motherfuckin' boys are gonna be back! That is when shit will get real! Until then, it's all horse hockey.

2-2-14 Invisible :happydance:

just this....

I wonder if the download will remain free beyond 2 million downloads if it passes that in the 24 hour span.

I understand the concern but don't quite get the furor over U2 working with BofA. Bono has long said he'll work with anyone regardless of politics if they help the cause. Despite BofA's sullied history, their contribution to this is a good thing.

Some of you may think that this charitable act is just a PR smokescreen for BofA, and hey, you may be right, but this PR smokescreen is going to measurably and tangibly improve the lives of millions in need.

I think from a fan's perspective, the concern is more so that public perception will be negative against the band for aligning with a bank when they are clearly trying to emerge back into the consciousness. Not necessarily the alignment itself for moral, political, etc. reasons.

Also, folks, even though the song is being given away for free, it can still chart because it's being downloaded. Therefore, it's a single. Since it's on the album, it's a LEAD single. Apparently some of you still think that lead time is 4 months.

You wouldn't make good band managers.

 Everyone in this forum had better fucking download it. No download = no bitching about chart position.

I'd have made one hell of a manager.

I like the sound of that. Our motherfuckin' boys. :applaud:
We're back, baby! :loveshower:

Well sure, that's a literal interpretation. But in reality, a "lead single" is the primary vehicle by which an album is introduced. 'Invisible' is being carried as a charity single, not an album single. While it may be on the record, I still expect another (bigger?) song to be released come springtime which will be decorated with all the grandeur and trappings of a new release. In effect, the lead single.

I wonder what Bank of America fans are saying about the partnership with U2 on their fan forum.

quick glance at the board reveals these lovely gems:

"I am sure glad I have Obama and the Libtards to tell me what the weather is doing otherwise"

"Robert Reich 2014/1/21 Stop Corporate Socialism"

"Hey Libtards .... when the Market DROPS .... is Obama responsible for that too?"

And I thought seeing "bronies" board was weird...

Imagine if you selectively plucked a few posts from this board haha. Something about donkey punching a superb owl

nervous times....what if you don't like the song? 5 years of anticipation and excitement completely deflated? Will you join the Coldplay forum?

I know you are going to say "it's only one song" blah blah.....but as a fan you know you really want to love all of the songs.

I love every U2 song the first time I hear it..

the effect is usually good for a month or so, before (ir)rationality settles in
