Al Gore Used Streets As An Entrance Song To A Speech

Well, I guess it's an exciting song to get people 'pumped' for another scintillating Gore speech , but how does it relate in any way? He should have had a heart-shaped stage too I guess.

Ctnow: Gore uses WTSHNN as entrance theme for speech

April 14, 2002

These people still feel the sting of 2000, probably more so
than anyone in the country, since they feel it was their
party's votes that were not counted. And they say 2002 and
2004 are about 2000.

"There's an undercurrent that you can't deny," said state
Democratic Chairman Bob Poe. "We can't forget it. We
shouldn't forget it."

Gore played right into those feelings Saturday. He arrived
accompanied by a pounding, rhythmic rendition of U2's
"Where the Streets Have No Name," a song whose lyrics
include "I want to tear down the walls that hold me inside."

The worst ever had to be Reagan using 'Born In The USA' and twisting the meaning of the song for his own purposes. The Boss was not pleased.

Did U2 approve this? Just wondering. Sometimes the artist doesn't know. He must've been inspired by the way Streets roared the fans in concert, and he must like U2!

I think the 'worst' use of a song in a political campaign was David Duke using Bryan Adams' "Everything I do I do it for you" which Adams took away from him.

His would probably be a bleeding heart stage.

How early do you think you'd have to line up to ensure being in the heart for Big Al?

Reagan tried to use John Cougar Mellencamp's "Pink Huses" which-- like Born in the USA-- doesn't give the rosiest view of the U.S. I sometimes wonder who the hell these politicians are hiring.

If I remember correctly The Reagan people called first and asked and Bruce exposed their ignorance and said-"No"
plus.
"Please understand the meaning of this song".
Reagan did call first.

The appropiate question here is-

Did Gore call Bono for permission?
Thats the question.

Oh-that's right. He also invented the Internet, Nutra Sweet, the artificial heart, and Post Its too.

I heard he also designed Bono's clothes for the tour.

He must be serious about running again, because he shaved his beard. Here he is at the speech

LOL! It seems highly likely that Gore just picked Streets because he thought it's popular, which is pretty stupid because I don't really see how it could relate to politics.

The next time U2 plays "Where the Streets Have No Name" live, will they introduce it by saying, "This is a song Al Gore stole from us, we're stealing it back." a la "Helter Skelter"?

I figure it took him this long to shave his beard because he couldn't bear to put a blade to his throat after losing to Bush.

So please tell us Al-why did you use Streets?

And I kind of liked the beard on you-it made you look rather 'rugged'

PS-I voted for you, and I don't live in Florida.
