those few seconds before the bass and percussion start...

is that Bono with a distorted vocal or just some sound effect?

if it is Bono, is he actually saying something or is it just random "ooooh OOOOH oooh OOOOH" stuff?

Arguably Edges guitar put through some pretty crazy effects...knowing edge he probably used experimented with every form of effect modulation possible to get it so sweet..love it!

..best intro ever though is Acrobat..and you all know it

I believe that is a guitar effect.

It sounds like a screaming guitar. I'm actually not that fond of it. It's just a bit too weird. It is cool to hear people scream for it when he does it in concert, though.

I always assumed it was guitar distortion...

Ok, those of you who saw UTEOTW live: is it a sound effect from Edge's guitar?
Does Edge start the song live with this effect?

nope, like most of the songs that feature overdubs and various multi guitar mixes, these can't all be performed live
