here's one of those meaningless lists to get started

1. NewOrder- who cant help it but feel happy listening to these guys?

2. Placebo- though Black Market Music was a bit of a letdown

, Without You Im Nothing- superb guitar work and song writing, and an ideal album to take out for a rainy day

3. Madonna- cant resist singing to madonna, or watching her viddys

4. Depeche Mode

5. Underworld- more than 'just trance'
 
powderfinger (outside Australia) no-one else has heard of australias biggest act.

depeche mode, outside central & eastern europe, are definately underated.

I love Social Distortion!!-But I am from Canada!!

IMO-The new Pulp album is not half as good as the last one!!!
 
In the US, I'd say Coldplay is VERY underrated. Sure, "Yellow" was a big radio hit, but nothing else from the album will be.

And it is such a good album - this group gives me hope that all new groups do not suck.

riddler... i have to agree with wilco, they are amazing. their work on the mermaid ave and mermaid ave 2 albums with billy bragg is so great. im also adding counting crows because their songwriting is everything i would aspire to.
