If it can be narrowed down to just one (yes I know it's hard), what is the best intro to an album ever?

I think it's the one for Pink Floyd - Dark Side Of The Moon

Close behind: Joshua Tree, Achtung Baby, Quadrophenia, The Wall, Ten and others I can't think of right now.

Sigur Ros - ( )
Muse - Absolution
Wilco - A Ghost is Born
Tool - Lateralus
Radiohead - OK Computers
Coldplay - A Rush of Blood to the Head

I'm forgetting plenty.

streets, obviously...but NON-U2.... (watch me dive through that loophole...!) I'd say Polysics - go ahead now! (from the album 'NEU') or David Bowie - Speed of Life (from the album 'Low')

I'm so sorry I had to pick two

Manic Street Preachers - Know Your Enemy

Muse - Absolution

Thirteen Senses - The Invitation

For me it's either:

"Myrrh" from Heyday

or

"Destination" from Starfish

Both songs perfectly set the mood for their respective albums and both are wonderful individual songs.

Both by The Church, of course. ;)

For this one I would have to go with AtomicBono. "Where The Streets Have No Name" has one of the best intros ever. I mean the build up is incredible. It is even better live. One of the best versions I listened to was "Auld Lang Syne" as the intro. You could feel the emotion just by listening to it.

Here are soe close contenders:

"Smells Like Teen Spirit" - Nirvana

"Enter Sandman" - Metallica

"Born In The U.S.A." - Bruce Springsteen

"Zoo Station" - U2

"Thunder Road" - Bruce Springsteen

And that's about it for now:rockon:

Not sure about absolute favorite, but...

"Writing To Reach You - Travis, The Man Who
"Zoo Station" - U2, Achtung Baby
"Cadence to Arms" - Dropkick Murphys, Do or Die
"Badlands" - Bruce Springsteen, Darkness on the Edge of Town
"Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" - The Beatles, SPLHCB
"Everything in Its Right Place" - Radiohead
"Welcome to the Jungle" - Guns N Roses, Appetite for Destruction
"Rock n Roll Star" - Oasis, Definitely Maybe
"London Calling" - The Clash, London Calling

tons more.

'Know Your Rights' that introduces 'Combat Rock'.

Sure it's not that strong an album, but 'this is a public service announcement...with GUITAR!'

Now that's fantastic.

streets and it's 1990's reimagining aka zooropa .. both very fine

massive attack - angel (holy fvck!)

Bush's Razorblade Suitcase. Gavin's dog Winstan begins the album with a nice little growl/heavy breathing number. Any album which opens with a growly panting dog wins.

they suck

good constuctive arguement there. Yes, after the first couple of songs on their album, they do, but it doesn't mean I can't like like the way the piano fades in at the start.

if I may add one:

Stereophonics - Performance & Cocktails

Zoo Station - Achtung Baby (U2)
Battery - Master Of Puppets (Metallica)
Hells Bells - Back In Black (AC/DC)
Brown Sugar - Sticky Fingers (The Rolling Stones)
Badlands - Darkness On The Edge Of Town (Bruce Springsteen)
The Who - Baba O'Riley
Whole Lotta Love - Led Zeppelin (Led Zeppelin II)
War Pigs - Paranoid (Black Sabbath)
Beautiful Day - All That You Can't Leave Behind (U2)
Where The Streets Have No Name - The Joshua Tree (U2)
Born In The USA - Born In The USA (Bruce Springsteen)
