Yet another question about cooking/baking

So I'm trying to make babka. It calls for dry activated yeast. I can't get the yeast to activate to save my life. Someone please explain to me exactly what I need to do so I can get this darn thing to work! I already did what the recipe said and what it said on the yeast packet but I just can't get it to work. Thanks!

I'm not an expert but make sure the yeast has not expired and that everything is at the correct temperature.

Yeah, your yeast is probably dead. Sometimes it doesn't even last till the expiration date.

Put a little yeast in a bowl with 1/2 cup warm water and a little sugar. If it doesn't bubble in 10- 15 minutes, it's dead.
