I've always thought the solo was too long and boring without something behind it to back it up (like in the video or in live recordings), so I suggested we add something to it, and Mia suggested I make a dirty recording to go in the background.

So I recorded myself saying things like "Do you want me? I want you? I want you to take me higher. You can touch me. We can be the real thing. Our love can be the real thing." Originally the recordings I made were MUCH dirtier (with noises Bono would be proud of), but I got too embarrassed.

As for One, the studio version is especially harmed by not having a proper outro. Just petering out while Bono pulls the faux-emotional trick is fucking weak. The "do you hear us coming?" live verse is actually good and improves the song.
