If you could put together a super group, which includes members form different bands, who would the members be, and what would you call the band?

Here's mine:

The Boondoggles

Cliff Richard: Lead Vocals
Alison Krauss: Lead Vocals, Electric fiddle
Jeff Lynne (Electric Light Orchestra): Guitars
Michael Nesmith (The Monkees): Guitars
John Wetton (King Crimson, ASIA): Bass guitar
Benny Andersson (ABBA): Piano
Geoff Downes (ASIA): Synths
Larry Mullen Jr.: Drums

I am using modern bands only, so that I don't have to worry about Jimmy Page or Jimi Hendrix or John Lennon.

Vocals, Harmonica  : Bono
Vocals, Guitar: Thom Yorke (Radiohead)
Guitar: The Edge
Guitar: Johhny Greenwood (Radiohead)
Bass, Organ, Piano, Backing Vocals: Mike Mills (REM)
Drums: Carter Beauford (Dave Matthews Band)
Drums: Dave Grohl (Foo Fighters, Nirvana, Queens of the Stone Age album, new NIN album, some new heavy metal I can't think of)

I put in 2 drummers so they can switch off depending on the type of song, or maybe just play together sometimes.

Name? I don't know.

Vocals & Guitar: Ryan Adams
Drums: Animal

Bonochick

I'm getting the impression you really like Ryan Adams. That song Summer of 69 was pretty good. ;) just kidding. I agree, Animal is a spectacular drummer.

My band (excluding the 4 guys in U2 as I think they work best together):

Thom Yorke: vocals, guitar, piano
Juliana Hatfield: guitar, vocals
Jonny Greenwood: guitar, other misc.
Lou Barlow: bass, vocals
drums: Brendan Canty

It's a band with numerous multi-instrumentalists and songwriters.

SUPERGROUP that actually happened:

Vocals/Guitar: Neil Finn
Guitar/Vocals: Johnny Marr (Smiths, The The, Electronic)
Violin/Keyboards: Lisa Germano (solo, Mellancamp, etc)
Guitar/Effects: Ed O'Brian (radiohead)
Vocals/Guitar/Ukelele: Eddie Vedder (pj)
Drums: Phil Selway (radiohead)
Piano/Guitar/Percussion: Tim Finn (Enz, Crdwd House, Finns, etc)
Bass: Sebastian Steinberg (soul coughing)

AKA "7 Worlds Collide", do yourself a favor and get this Neil Finn DVD. WOW.

Dream Group:
Male Vocalist: Neil Finn (Crowded House, Split Enz, Finn Bros)
Female Vocalist: Liz Frazer (Cocteau Twins)
Guitar (Rythm): Mark Knopfler (Dire Straits)
Guitar (Lead): David Gilmour (Pink Floyd)
Keyboards: Beaumont Tench (Tom Petty/Heartbreakers)
Drums: Manu Katche (Gabriel, Sting)
Bass: Tony Levin (Gabriel, King Crimson)

Lots of musical firepower right there. They'd make a very dreamy album...Liz Frazer singing on top of Gilmour's icy notes....ooooohhhhhhhhhh......

Vocals, Public Relations : Liam Gallagher
Vocals, Guitar: Eric Bachmann (Archers of Loaf/Crooked Fingers)
Guitar: Lou Barlow (Sebadoh)
Keyboard: Roby Newton (Milemarker)
Bass: Bob Weston (Shellac)
Drums: Georgia Hubley (Yo La Tengo)

Following Hawkfire's criteria of what belongs:

Male Vocalist: Maynard James Keenan (Tool, A Perfect Circle)
Female Vocalist: Lisa Hannigan (Damien Rice)
Guitar (Rhythm): Damien Rice
Guitar (Lead): Jack White
Keyboards: Chris Martin
Drums: Danny Carey (Tool)
Bass: Flea (RHCP)

something like that

Harmonica and Vocals-Bob Dylan
Guitar-Jimi Hendrix
Bass-Adam Clayton
Drums-Keith Moon
Backup Vocals-Robert Plant
Rythm Guitar-Edge

Lead Vocals: John Lennon
Backup Vocals: Bono
Lead Guitar: Jimi Hendrix

Bass:Tina Weymouth
Drums:Steve Gadd
