My fiance and I are having a VERY small wedding, and just getting married at the registry office. We can pick our own music, but because the wedding is at the registry office, it can't have any religious content (which probably rules out 'Into My Arms' by Nick Cave, which was my choice! ). So, we're trying to think of good wedding songs.

Give me ideas, please.

NO religious content? Ugh! "Paper Moon" by Whiskeytown is such a beautiful song...my best friend and her man used it for their first dance, per my suggestion...but it mentions God. Meh.

"We've Only Just Begun"

actually to be honest, I don't know, but allow me to pass on my sincerest congratulations.

edit: actually, how about 'your love is the place where i come from' by teenage fanclub? i can't remember all the lyrics off-hand for any subtlety i'm missing but it seems to fit.

:cute: I will try my bestest to thing of things. What immediately comes to mind is 'total eclipse of the heart' ;) :lmao:, but I think you should definitely have 'you're so pretty, we're so pretty.' Ok, but for real, I'll think...

Ok, can it say "sin?" How about Ben Harper's "Not Fire, Not Ice??" Wait, I think he just said "religion." and "blessed." How strict are they?

i had a huge argument with our dj as he flatly refused to play white wedding.

meggie you and sam should think about songs about love you both really like, compare your list, and go from there.

What a dumb rule, it's your wedding so you should be able to play whatever the hell you want.

How about Crazy Love by Van Morrison?
I glanced really quickly at this & before I saw the van morrison part, i was like, 'she is NOT suggesting 'crazy in love?!''. Although there is a decent snow patrol cover of it... ;)

Megan, lyrics to 'not fire, not ice'....not sure if it breaks rules or not...ok, probably does, but I  it:
"Not Fire Not Ice"

There is not a river wide.
Not a mountain high.
And neither sin nor evil.
Could change how I feel inside.
Could change how I feel inside.

Not all the strength of the ocean.
Not all the heat from the sun, from the sun.
Now, others have tried, I just can't deny.
For me you are the one.
For me you are the one.

The true love is priceless.
For true love you pay a price.
But there's nothing can keep me from loving you.
Not fire, no not ice.
Not fire, no not ice.

Like a hero or a champion.
You are the best, you're the best.
Like religion or superstition.
With you I am blessed.
With you I am blessed.

Now the river may grow wider.
The mountain may reach past the sky.
And whether or not you feel the same.
My love shall never die.
My love shall never die.

The true love you give and take.
The true love is sacrifice.
But there's nothing can keep me from loving you.
Not fire, no not ice.
Not fire, no not ice.
Not fire, no not ice.

A lot of people I know like "Only the Beginning" and "Just You and Me" by Chicago. I hope you can find something that is very special to both of you that will be allowed!

Jenn, will you and Bingy sing that at the wedding?

Jenn and Bingy duet :cute:

I don't know what counts as religious content, really. I just know that we have to get it approved beforehand. We've thought of plenty of songs for the party a couple of days later, but somehow I don't think songs like Elbow's 'Asleep In the Back' are wedding-ceremony appropriate. :slant:

Fleetwood Mac - Songbird

For you, there'll be no more crying,
For you, the sun will be shining,
And I feel that when I'm with you,
It's alright, I know it's right

To you, I'll give the world
to you, I'll never be cold
'Cause I feel that when I'm with you,
It's alright, I know it's right.

And the songbirds are singing,
Like they know the score,
And I love you, I love you, I love you,
Like never before.

And I wish you all the love in the world,
But most of all, I wish it from myself.

And the songbirds keep singing,
Like they know the score,
And I love you, I love you, I love you,
Like never before, like never before

The Beach Boys - All I wanna do

All I wanna do
Is always bring good to you
To give you all the love I can
And help you in whatever you do

Sure as the sun will come around again to start off another day
You can be sure that in my heart and soul I'll love you in every way

All I wanna do
Is bring happiness to you
I hope it makes you happy to know
My love's with you wherever you go

Oo when I sit and close my ey-eyes
A gentle thought comes in my mind
My love is burnin' brightly
Lke the moon and stars shine nightly
All I wanna do
All I wanna do
All I wanna do
All I wanna do

Oo let these little words of love
Come romance and light your way
My love is burnin' brightly
Like the moon and stars shine nightly
All I wanna do (lonely in the night I feel)
All I wanna do
All I wanna do
My love is burnin' brightly
All I wanna do
Doo doo doo doo doo
Like the moon and stars shine brightly
All I wanna do
My love is burnin' brightly
All I wanna do
Doo doo doo doo doo
Like the moon and stars shine brightly

R.E.M. - At My Most Beautiful

I've found a way to make you
I've found a way
a way to make you smile

I read bad poetry
into your machine
I save your messages
just to hear your voice.
you always listen carefully
to awkwards rhymes.
you always say your name.
like I woulden't know it's you,
at your most beautiful.

I've found a way to make you
I've found a way
a way to make you smile

at my most beautiful
I count your eyelashes secretly.
with every one, whisper I love you.
I let you sleep.
I know you're closed eye watching me,
listening.
I thought I saw a smile.

I've found a way to make you
I've found a way
a way to make you smile

Lucinda Williams - There's something about what happens when we talk

If I had my way, I'd be in your town
I might not stay, but at least I would have been around

There's something about what happens when we talk
Something about what happens when we talk

Does this make sense ? It doesn't matter anyway
Is it coincidence ? Or was it meant to be ?

There's something about what happens when we talk
Something about what happens when we talk

Conversation with you was like a drug
It wasn't your face so much as it was your words

And there's something about what happens when we talk
Something about what happens when we talk

I can't stay around, 'cause I'm going back south
But all I regret now is I never kissed your mouth

And there's something about what happens when we talk
Something about what happens when we talk
Something about what happens when we talk
Something about what happens when we talk

 It'd be almost as good as my "creep" performance, I"m sure!!

"Asleep in the Back"

This one's a bit overdone, but it's still a beautiful song... "At Last" by Etta James.

I went to a wedding over the weekend and the couple used "Lenny" by Stevie Ray Vaughan for their song. There aren't any words. It's a gorgeous song, though. Have you considered something without words?

oooh, maybe then you can play a little kenny g at the reception! I bet phil would hum along...from afar.

grow old with me - john lennon

feels like home - bonnie raitt (dunno who wrote it...)

to make you feel my love - bob dylan

When Tori Amos played this last year in Albuquerque there wasn't a dry eye in the house. I always loved the song but not Christine McVee's voice. So when I heard Tori do it, omg

INXS "Never Tear Us Apart"

Don't ask me
What you know is true
Don't have to tell you
I love your precious heart

I
I was standing
You were there
Two worlds collided
And they could never tear us apart

We could live
For a thousand years
But if I hurt you
I'd make wine from your tears

I told you
That we could fly
'Cause we all have wings
But some of us don't know why

I
I was standing
You were there
Two worlds collided
And they could never ever tear us apart

The long and winding road/
Here, there and everywhere - Beatles

Wouldnt' it be nice- Beach boys

Wild horses - Rolling stones

Can't help falling in love with you/
