Braces!!
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Improving on Tom Cruise's smile may seem like "Mission: Impossible," but the Hollywood star wants a bit more perfection in his famous grin.
Cruise, who turns 40 in July, started wearing braces during the past week in a bid to improve his bite, his spokeswoman, Pat Kingsley, said on Friday.
"Yes, Tom Cruise has braces -- I don't know what else to say," Kingsley said, adding that he has had them for about a week and will likely have them on for a "year or so."
"He'll take them off for movies," she said. "To him, it's no big deal.
The "Mission: Impossible" star decided to perfect his pearly whites after taking one of his kids to the orthodontist and the doctor noticed his bite was out of alignment," Kingsley said.
Cruise reportedly is wearing see-through braces, but Kingsley said a single wire from the apparatus was plainly visible across his upper teeth.
Dr. Laurence Rifkin, a Beverly Hills specialist in aesthetic dentistry who counts many celebrities among his patients, said the actor is likely aiming to correct an asymmetry in the "mid-line" between his upper and lower teeth.
"It would be a subtle improvement to a great face," said Rifkin, who made clear he was commenting as an outside observer who is not involved in Cruise's treatment. "He's doing something for himself to improve what already is a good-looking face and give himself a more perfect smile."
