This film annoys me because it chickened out with regards to being true to the book. In the book, the big industry on trial was cigarrete manufacturers. The filmmakers obviously were not that brave, because in the film, the industry on trial was gun manufacturers.

Solid film all around other than that, though.

And now that I look at it again, with your additions, I think 03 was DEFINITELY stronger than 07 will be.

I wasn't sure if Reloaded was 02 or 03....see, I knew one of Reloaded and Revolutions came out in a November, and I was thinking it was Reloaded(which is incorrect obviously), which would've meant Reloaded would have had to be in 02 to come before Revolutions in 03. But in reality, Revolutions is the one that came out in November 2003, and Reloaded was like May 2003 or something like that. I know that now. I didn't remember it so clearly at the time of posting.

That's why Revolutions didn't do as well as Reloaded, they were released too close to each other.

The Pirates sequels did it right, but they sucked, so it doesn't make that much of a difference.

Yeah...I still haven't seen the Pirates sequels but I keep hearing that they were crap.

They ought to have studied the BTTF sequels. That's how you do sequels.

They're the only back-to-back sequels that kind of work. I used to love Part II, but after re-watching it for the 50th time, it's not as good as I remember it being.

Biff being a murderous pseudo-rapist gets to me.

The whole sports almanac thing is genius. If I had a time machine, that's what I'd do. The bastard Biff stole Marty's idea!

Plus, it's the only one of the three films where the time machine flies!

P.S. You gotta love the helmet-viser-whatever-the-hell-it-is thing that Doc puts over his head that looked all futuristic in the 80s but that just looks totally 80s now.

The whole idea of them going back to the same day as the 1st one is absolute genius though, I love it.

I'm not up to date on most of what's coming out the rest of this year (some of them will be 2008 here in the UK anyway), but 2007 hasn't been that bad at all so far. Babel, The Fountain, Little Children, Zodiac, This Is England, The Lives of Others, Perfume: The Story of a Murderer and Paris Je T'aime have all been a cut above, with some other decent ones too.

2006 had some absolute pearlers though. Brick, Pan's Labyrinth, Goodnight, And Good Luck, The Proposition, Clerks 2, Little Miss Sunshine, Casion Royale, The Squid and the Whale, The Departed, United 93, Volver and The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada were all excellent. I still find it hard to make a top 10 out of those 12.

5 stars if I have to use a star system. I usually rate out of 10 points, using half point increments.

And when I get really hardcore into ratings, I use a 2-dimensional, graphical rating system my friend and I have been developing.

We're still ironing out a lot of the details, and I haven't pinned down the right balance yet to make it work properly with every film, so I'll just say it currently uses two axis' focusing on two seperate philosophical aspects of film as an artform, and a wonky version of the distance formula.

It still needs a lot of work though.

So this wouldn't be able to work with something like Casino and Gone Fishin', I guess.

Sounds cool, mine's probably going to be a straightforward point system by genre. Like comedies will have stuff like joke quota, quotables, rewatchability, classic scenes, etc... while a drama will have emotional impact, characters, mood, setting, etc.

Actually the whole point of my system was to be able to adequately, and objectively rate both good and bad films in their own merits. Because some movies are just so bad they're good. Right?

That's what the favorites/greatest thing is all about.

Schindler's List may be a greater movie objectively than Wrath of Khan, but I'm gonna watch Khan 4-5 times more than Schindler's, that's for sure.

I'm lucky there's an arts theatre near to where I live otherwise I wouldn't see a lot of the films that I get to. It was the one place in the whole city that was showing Pan's Labyrinth and God knows how many others, so hurray!

^Are you serious? Surely you're not judging a year of film based solely on summer blockbuster, committee driven, franchise-extending cash cows? I'm not saying the merits of 2007 should be judged on just the po-faced, worthy Oscar-baiting films either, but there's more to films than just cheap, CGI-enhanced thrills.
