Something like that.

Slow Show
Mr. November
Start A War

Not sure if I could do further because it's SO even.

You have to do it running but you'll do anything that ask you to because you don't mind yourself in a picture as long as you look far away
As long as you look removed
Showered and blue-blazered
Fill yourself with quarters

You get mistaken for strangers by your friends
When you pass them at night under the silvery, silvery city bank lights
Arm in arm in arm and eyes and eyes glazing under
You wouldn't want an angel watching over you
Surprise, surprise, they wouldn't wanna watch
Another uninnocent elegant fall into the unmagnificent lives of adults

Great lyrics.

If you want the truth, that was the first song I heard by them, and I hated it, but for whatever reason gave Fake Empire a go as well. So glad I did.

I love Mistaken For Strangers now, but it's kind of got a bit of a dark mark on it for being the song that almost ruined The National for me.

Are you talking about Mistaken For Strangers in two different sections of the forum? That's cool by me. One of my top 5 from the band.

Yep. I like to break up the :loveshower:s in Zoo Confesh with the occasional posting of great songs.

Hopping onto The National tracks discussion (in no order):

Secret Meeting
Exile / Vilify
Mr. November
England
All the Wine
Blank Slate
Murder Me Rachael
Mistaken for Strangers
Bloodbuzz Ohio
Squalor Victoria

In no particular order, because I'm lazy and it's absurdly early:

Fake Empire
Karen
Mistaken For Strangers
Geese of Beverly Road
Bloodbuzz, Ohio
Start A War
Conversation 16
Lit Up
All The Wine
Murder Me Rachael

I really don't think that I could make a top-ten National songs list. They are just an incredibly consistent band. I'll try anyways, in no particular order:

Terrible Love
Bloodbuzz Ohio
Afraid of Everyone
Mistaken for Strangers
Slow Show
Racing Like a Pro
All the Wine
Abel
Baby, We'll Be Fine
Available

Also, top five albums of the 90s, again in no particular order:

Bjork: Homogenic
Depeche Mode: Violator
Portishead: Dummy
Radiohead: OK Computer
U2: Achtung Baby

I really have no idea how I would rank these against one another.

Really great 90s albums, in no particular order:

U2 - Zooropa
REM - Automatic For The People
Dismemberment Plan - Emergency & I
Built To Spill - Keep It Like A Secret
Guided By Voices - Bee Thousand
Beck - Midnite Vultures
Outkast - Aquemini
My Bloody Valentine - Loveless
Radiohead - OK Computer
Wilco - Summerteeth
Weezer - Blue Album
Super Furry Animals - Radiator

The National (no particular order because it's the hip thing to do)

Bloodbuzz Ohio
Terrible Love
Brainy
The Geese of Beverly Road
Slow Show
Mr. November
Exile/Vilify
Tall Saint
Available
Abel

This is a fascinating song. Something about it unnerves me a bit - it always seems to me like the key changes in a jarring way going into the bridge/chorus. But then, just when I think that I don't particularly care for it, the lyrics start to strike me, and I need to listen to the whole song.

That's an excellent description of it for me: extraordinarily jarring, but the fact that it feels seconds from falling apart makes it feel all the more special, especially since Matt bares his soul through the lyrics in a way he seldom does. It's a very haunting song, very claustrophobic.

Top five albums of the 2000s:

1. Radiohead: In Rainbows
2. Radiohead: Kid A
3. Radiohead: Hail to the Thief
4. The National: Alligator
5. Robert Plant & Alison Krauss: Raising Sand

I know that it probably looks daft to have three Radiohead albums at the top of the list, but, the more that I listen to those albums, the more I think that they have been strides ahead of the field for the last ten years or so - perhaps even longer.

This page is quality. I wasn't sure if people liked that song or not; it tends to get overlooked in favor of Secret Meeting and...most of the second half.

Guys, I have one humble request. Please include music lists in your posts. I have lots of good memories in this thread, and will be sad to see it get locked when it maxes out. Short / random lists included at the end of responses will ease my pain of seeing it eventually lock and disappear forever. Thank you, kind sirs/madams/transgenders.

Artists of note that I will be seeing this month:

Fleet Foxes
Explosions in the Sky
No Age
The Decemberists

Bands I saw at Rock Werchter 2011.

Best: Fleet Foxes

Queens Of The Stone Age, The National, Arctic Monkeys, Elbow, Coldplay

TV On The Radio, Arsenal, PJ Harvey, A-Trak

Triggerfinger, The Gaslight Anthem, Grinderman, Kaiser Chiefs, Kasabian

Anouk

Worst: Linkin Park

Current favorite break-up songs (in no order):

"Time" by David Bowie
"Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)" by Journey (arguably the most cathartic)
"Telephone Line" by ELO
"Lonesome Town" by Ricky Nelson
"Exile / Vilify" by The National
"Idiot Wind" by Bob Dylan
"China Girl" by Iggy Pop
