Consider yourself lucky. I'm not sure what he was attempting to accomplish on that one.

No comment on the opinions, but this is the kind of beautiful post that only you could write.

Top 20 favorite albums, lyrically (one album per artist, so as not to be dominated by my three or four favorite songwriters):

1. Joni Mitchell - Court And Spark
2. U2 - Achtung Baby
3. Radiohead - OK Computer
4. Arcade Fire - Funeral
5. The Mountain Goats - Tallahassee
6. Tom Waits - Swordfishtrombones
7. Neil Young - Rust Never Sleeps
8. Van Morrison - Astral Weeks
9. The Dismemberment Plan - Emergency & I
10. Bruce Springsteen - Born To Run
11. Bob Dylan - Blood On The Tracks
12. Beach Boys - Pet Sounds
13. The Kinks - Village Green Preservation Society
14. Leonard Cohen - Songs of Leonard Cohen
15. Elliott Smith - Either/Or
16. Eels - Electro-Shock Blues
17. Elvis Costello - Blood And Chocolate
18. Wilco - Summerteeth
19. The Who - Quadrophenia
20. The Flaming Lips - Soft Bulletin

I wanted to see if this list bore any resemblance to my actual top 20 and, no, it absolutely doesn't. Shows you where my priorities are.

I'm not going to ask what you consider filler, because I may have to cut you after reading your response.

Okay well I'll just ask what's your opinion of it and do you consider there to be no filler?

You have Roses as your second favorite Love Below song, so we're bound to disagree somewhere. I've always found that one a bit grating.

Speakerboxxx/Love Below should have been a single album. At least, if they wanted to preserve their run of excellent albums; I would rank it below any of its predecessors. As an example of Outkast as a thrilling, innovative group, however, it still works.

Well I don't think it's great as a hip-hop album or a flawless masterpiece, but it's my favorite of anything they've done because of the musical ambition and eclectic styles. It's like the best album Prince never recorded.

I don't like every song on there (I could do without Love in War and Pink & Blue, maybe Dracula's wedding) but the high points outweigh the low ones. And it has a LOT of high points.

they're exactly the reasons I love it, I just enjoy their other albums more.

Take Off Your Cool, with Norah Jones, is really great.

Stankonia really is so fantastic. I need to pick up more of the albums soon. I too am a big fan of The Love Below, however.

yes, Stankonia is awesome, and yes, you definitely should get the three albums they put out before that. Aquemini in particular.

I love seeing a band live can make you really fall in love with a band. I love High Violet now, definitely top five of 2010 and easily my favourite National album.

Took you long enough.

I don't think that I can rank the songs on High Violet. It doesn't have a disappointing moment, and my favorite song from it changes seemingly every week.

Inspired by a listen through Marquee Moon today, here are the 20 albums that I think contain the most kickass guitar work ever (excluding metal: I dislike the genre to such a degree that I could never be truly objective about one element of it). These records all make me exceedingly proud to have stuck with guitar after all these years and affirm my belief that the instrument is one of the more badass creations of man.

One album per artist:

1. Jimi Hendrix Experience- Are You Experienced
2. Neil Young & Crazy Horse - Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere
3. My Bloody Valentine - Loveless
4. Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin II
5. Television - Marquee Moon
6. Pink Floyd - Animals
7. David Bowie - The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars
8. U2 - Achtung Baby
9. Built to Spill - Keep It Like a Secret
10. The Velvet Underground - White Light/White Heat
11. Funkadelic - One Nation Under a Groove
12. Steely Dan - Countdown To Ecstasy
13. Miles Davis - A Tribute to Jack Johnson
14. King Crimson - Red
15. Smashing Pumpkins - Siamese Dream
16. Yes - Fragile
17. Explosions In The Sky - The Earth Is Not A Cold Dead Place
18. Suede - Dog Man Star
19. Richard & Linda Thompson - I Want to See the Bright Lights Tonight
20. Dire Straits - Love Over Gold
