What did it branch off of? I have been looking online with no success? Any ideas.
 
I find it to be a combining of not only hop, but also hip. It's certainly better than either of them ever were on their own, that's for sure!
 
It started in poorer urban areas of the country. Kids couldn't afford guitars and drums, but could afford turntables and records. They started using the beats of other songs and infusing the beats to create new sounds. It was a return to the tribal drums of Africa in a way...
 
Would you consider rap of today a bad influence and not what it used to be when Public Enemy, 2pac, Biggie were around?
 
The only rap I can stomach today is The Roots, and Common. Thats about it.
