my daughter is 11, and we got her a guitar for her birthday a few weeks ago. Behringer guitar pack with amp. Now she has to find a teacher (she plays piano). She can sound out songs (nothing fancy). She was sitting with her guitar (not plugged in) trying to play along with U2 songs the other night
