thank you mvd.

this thread keeps getting better and better, i hope it stick around for a while.

long live the tsar!

...even if he died nearly a 100 years ago.

I remember a few years ago watching some series on the Hitler Channel about the Russian Czars. It was several hours long, but I watched the whole thing and learned so much. The most fascinating to me are the people who claim to be Romanov children who survived, especially Anastasia.

Thanks for bringing this up and providing the link, bear.

anytime. this thread kicks my ass, because i'm thrilled so many of you are actually interested in this.

but this hitler channel of yours sounds really interesting...is it part of the same package that includes the history channel? :sexywink:

by the way, melon, i have a question for you or anyone else who knows a lot on the matter.

can you give me a run-down as to several different events that include the number 17? it's been long said that that number was a curse for the romanovs...

have any of you read the book 'the last tsar'?

it's amazing, even if the author takes a few too many liberties.

I'm guessing that's where you got "the curse of the number 17" from. :sexywink:

I got that book on my 12th birthday, and I loved every minute of it.

Melon

so what are you saying...that only children can appreciate it?

i think i'll read it again soon.

but explain to me more about the curse of the number 17! explain it! NOW!!!

woah woah woah...

what film?

Why, it's this film right here:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0067483/

"Nicholas and Alexandra" (1971)

"Doctor Who" fanatics remember the actor who played Nicholas II (Michael Jayston) as "The Valeyard." And since he played a future incarnation of the Doctor, they'll never forget either. Never.

Oh and I nearly forgot. "Rasputin" (Tom Baker) became the 4th "Doctor Who." There's some useless trivia for you all.

It just means I was an extraordinarily geeky 12 year old.

I don't remember off the top of my head. It's in the book, though.

Haha...no worries.

BTW, you should read Umberto Eco's "Foucault's Pendulum." I think you'd like it. It would remind you of a long-lost forum member that you once emulated. :sexywink:

Melon

ONCE emulated? only ONCE?

and yes, he recommended that book to the moon if i do recall correctly. :sexywink:

THE post of this thread!!!! :applaud:

Bloody Romanovs. If a revolution happens, it can generally be surmised that the overthrown deserved it. The Tsars of Russia were tyrants.
