Oh, Love Muscle.

I have been an anime (Japanese animation -- very different from American cartoons, tons better, much higher quality and they aren't just children-oriented) fan for years, and the anime community has their own emoticons. If any of you read my livejournal, you'll see I use them on there and not on here -- simply because everyone always asks what those emoticons are and it gets old of explaining. So here is a rundown of some of them (and yeah, I'm a dork, ha ha):

^_^ = smiling, cheerful
^^ = variation of above
^.^ = variation of both above, with a little mouth
^_~ = wink
^.~ = different wink
^^; = the ; represents a sweatdrop, common in anime, to show embarassment
^_^; = variation of above
@_@ = feeling weird
XD = laughing, I tend to *cough* overuse this..

O_O = Mona and co. made this popular here
= ditto
= ditto
o_o = staring, often when someone said something odd
