Rod Stewart...he used to be real fucking cool.

I'm sitting here, listening to various tunes, and an old Rod Stewart tune starts playing (You Wear It Well.) My God. This song is sweet. 12 string acoustic, nice dirty electric, then band.

So, I pull up my other Rod tunes. "Maggie May", "Every Picture Tells A Story" "True Blue", "You're In My Heart".

Then I remember The Faces. Is there a better "rock" song than "Stay With Me"? Nope.

"Borstal Boys" is a fucking stormer.

"Cindy Incidentally" sounds like an old friend.

He used to be GREAT. Had the whole organic acoustic, bluesy rock thing perfected. His voice was perfect for it. Really good shit. The early 70's were sweet.

Oh, and The Faces did "Ohh La La", if you don't know that tune, make it a priority.

I saw him last year at the Hollywood Bowl, albeit way in the back. I didn't want to see new stuff. All I wanted was Maggie May, Stay With Me, Every Picture Tells A Story,... The people around me were like zombies. I was so into it and, man, it was just soooo great. And of course Ronnie Wood was with him. F***ing awesome!!!

Yeah, the stuff I've heard from that time period was good, I'll agree. "Maggie May" is a very good song (even though I always, for some reason, think of San Fransisco whenever I hear it ...).

"Reason To Believe" isn't a bad song, either .

I agree, Rod used to make incredible music. But he's become a parody of himself. Most of the newer music that's ending up on his current albums(and maybe all) are written by other songwriters. I just can't help but think, "Come on, Rod, you're a talented songwriter!" I just wish he'd get back to what he does best - writing new material.

In other Rod news, back when I was at university, I was wroking on a genetics paper really late one night and had the 80s videos channel on in the background to keep me company. It was around 3 am or so and I was borderline delirious already and I look up and see this blonde woman in pink tights and I'm wondering how come they're allowing lesbian videos on MuchMoreMusic. It was only then I realized the woman was Rod Stewart.
