This song hits far too close to home.

Cake
Motorcade of Generosity (1994)
Rock'n'Roll Lifestyle

Well, your CD collection looks shiny and costly.
How much did you pay for your bad Moto Guzi?
And how much did you spend on your black leather jacket?
Is it you or your parents in this income tax bracket?

Now tickets to concerts and drinking at clubs,
Sometimes for music that you haven't even heard of.
And how much did you pay for your rock'n'roll t-shirt
That proves you were there,
That you heard of them first?

How do you afford your rock'n'roll lifestyle?
How do you afford your rock'n'roll lifestyle?
How do you afford your rock'n'roll lifestyle?
Ah, tell me.

How much did you pay for the chunk of his guitar,
The one he ruthlessly smashed at the end of the show?
And how much will he pay for a brand new guitar,
One which he'll ruthlessly smash at the end of another show?
And how long will the workers keep building him new ones?
As long as their soda cans are red, white, and blue ones.
And how long will the workers keep building him new ones?
As long as their soda cans are red, white, and blue ones.

Aging black leather and hospital bills,
Tattoo removal and dozens of pills.
Your liver pays dearly now for youthful magic moments,
But rock on completely with some brand new components.

How do you afford your rock'n'roll lifestyle?
How do you afford your rock'n'roll lifestyle?
How do you afford your rock'n'roll lifestyle?

Excess ain't rebellion.
You're drinking what they're selling.
Your self-destruction doesn't hurt them.
Your chaos won't convert them.
They're so happy to rebuild it.
You'll never really kill it.
Yeah, excess ain't rebellion.
You're drinking what they're selling.
Excess ain't rebellion.
You're drinking,
You're drinking,
You're drinking what they're selling.

PS - I really like Cake,

This song always cracks my shit up. And yes, Cake kick ass.

Oddly, their 2 most recent albums are my favorite of theirs. Most people seem to like their first 2 the most.

That's my favorite song on that particular album.
I know the uy it's about - I swear.

I also adore cake. That's a fact. I like the missle two albums best. Don't know why.

Excess ain't rebellion....

This one specifically. I often sing this song to myself before I head to a show - especially when I have only "heard of em'."

Cake rocks live too. I would like to point that out. "Itallian Leather Sofa" live is just excellent.

My rock n roll lifestyle costs me plently a year. damn concert tickets, hotels, plane fare, interstate fees,

i will be living the rock and roll lifestyle this friday. flying out to denver for the coldplay concert. :crack: this will be the farthest i have traveled to see a band.

I'm so happy for you!!! You're going to have the most amazing time!!

Denver, that's pretty close to Utah. I'll be sure to send all my weird vibes in that direction.

The furthest I've gone is St. Louis to see U2. But this fall, I'm going from Minneapolis to Denver to see Wilco open for R.E.M at Red Rocks. Did I mention this will be after school started? Unhealthy obsession? What? :shifty:

I made a road trip to Mesa, AZ. to see Audioslave. Long drive, fantastic concert.

It used to be that music fans in Oklahoma had to travel far and wide to see anyone decent. Thank goodness they built the new Ford Center downtown. Lots of big acts have been playing there, so I hope U2 will think of stopping by on their next tour.

One of my favorite artists, Angie Aparo, is going to be in Dallas soon. But it's a week night and a three hour drive. Guess I'm not as obsessed as I could be!

*still contemplates going :hmm:

:shifty:

yeah...

i like cake from what i've heard. but i haven't heard much more than the singles and a handful of other songs (i haven't heard that song) :reject:

 angie aparo!

i drove by the ford center about 10 times looking for my hotel and and an on ramp to the highway.

 Angie! He's got a new album coming out soon, and supposedly some of the new songs are available for downloading on his website and/or the fan club site.

Don't feel bad...even I can still get lost downtown, especially when I'm trying to park. One-way streets = plus all the construction =

I have flown too [insert city below] to see bands:

Chicago
Vegas
Atlanta/Charlotte
Toronto
Washington D.C.
and now Denver.

Here is the scary thing - the majority of these trips count for two bands. :crack:

i've driven about 4 hours to see a concert, never flown anywhere though (i've only been on an airplane once though...well twice if you count round trip :) )....live and counting crows
