yes, rob dickinson is the cousin of bruce from iron maiden
and yes, he was the singer for 'catherine wheel'.
my friends who have his album, and are fans of catherine wheel, say it's 'ok' at best, no catherine wheel.
that being said, if you have no expectations for a new catherine wheel album you might really like it.
if you love his voice (and i certainly do), i would give the catherine wheel album 'chrome' my absolute highest recommendation. it's fucking amazing:drool:

I'm all over "Chrome" and "Ferment" from the old Catherine Wheel catalog. I think half of my "Top 25" in iTunes are from those two albums.

I've heard samples of this new album off of iTunes, and, so far, it doesn't really do much for me. And I'm not comparing it to Catherine Wheel. It just seems too safe compared to what I normally listen to.

Just browsed through the Catherine Wheel thread I'm going to try to get my hands on Chrome or Ferment. I don't think I've ever heard their music before :shh:

Also, I have a copy of Fresh Wine for the Horses coming to me next week. We'll see how that turns out!

Thanks everyone

There is some very cool footage of Dickinson rehearsing for a tour on this site

There are two complete songs ("My Name is Love" and "Oceans") and another clip (which you will probably have to register to see -- it's free though) with him talking about his work and the rehearsal process interspersed with parts of songs being worked on. Kind of a cool little primer. I'm seeing him in a few weeks, I figure I'll enjoy it more if I have a clue. :)

** edit to note: you might have to register to see any of the clips. The first time I tried I was able to see the first two without registering, but when I went back I had login. Still, I found it worth it.)

(the footage was recorded for the site I'm linking to, so I figure that should be ok. If not, I'm sure someone will take it down)
