It's really strange...I feel like I grew up watching John Ritter...I used to Watch Three's Company reruns during the day when I was young. He's the same age as my parents so that's scary. Who didn't love Jack Tripper? RIP:sad:

this is a shock...i loved john ritter.

i just discovered johnny cash's music last year...so sad.

:(

I just can't believe John Ritter is gone...I never get emotional when celebrities pass away but I seriously feel like crying. I've been watching Three's Company for 25 years...this is so sad.

Doubly tragic, he died on his daughter's 5th birthday :(

Oh Danny boy, the pipes, the pipes are calling
From glen to glen, and down the mountain side
The summer's gone, and all the flowers are dying
'Tis you, 'tis you must go and I must bide.
But come ye back when summer's in the meadow
Or when the valley's hushed and white with snow
'Tis I'll be here in sunshine or in shadow
Oh Danny boy, oh Danny boy, I love you so.

And if you come, when all the flowers are dying
And I am dead, as dead I well may be
You'll come and find the place where I am lying
And kneel and say an "Ave" there for me.

And I shall hear, tho' soft you tread above me
And all my dreams will warm and sweeter be
If you'll not fail to tell me that you love me
I'll simply sleep in peace until you come to me.

I'll simply sleep in peace until you come to me.

rest in peace johnny

John Ritter's father, Tex,once introduced Cash on a variety show(in the 50s, I believe).

John Ritter and Warren Zevon also appeared on the same episode of The Larry Sanders Show

strange, indeed...we lost all three of them in the span of a week...

Thoughts and prayers go out to the families that are left behind.
RIP John and Johnny...you're in better place now :sigh:

RIP John and Johnny. The loss of both will be felt by many I'm sure.

I was shocked to hear about John Ritter and my heart broke when I heard it was his daughter's birthday.

As for Johnny Cash. The man is a legend and lead such an interesting life. He is one of the few people in country music that I have a deep respect for and actually enjoy some of his music.

The Mercy Seat
*****************

It began when they come took me from my home
And put me in Dead Row,
Of which I am nearly wholly innocent, you know.
And I'll say it again
I..am..not..afraid..to..die.

I began to warm and chill
To objects and their fields,
A ragged cup, a twisted mop
The face of Jesus in my soup
Those sinister dinner meals
The meal trolley's wicked wheels
A hooked bone rising from my food
All things either good or ungood.

And the mercy seat is waiting
And I think my head is burning
And in a way I'm yearning
To be done with all this measuring of truth.
An eye for an eye
A tooth for a tooth
And anyway I told the truth
And I'm not afraid to die.

Interpret signs and catalogue
A blackened tooth, a scarlet fog.
The walls are bad. Black. Bottom kind.
They are sick breath at my hind
They are sick breath at my hind
They are sick breath at my hind
They are sick breath gathering at my hind

I hear stories from the chamber
How Christ was born into a manger
And like some ragged stranger
Died upon the cross
And might I say it seems so fitting in its way
He was a carpenter by trade
Or at least that's what I'm told

Like my good hand I
tatooed E.V.I.L. across it's brother's fist
That filthy five! They did nothing to challenge or resist.

In Heaven His throne is made of gold
The ark of his Testament is stowed
A throne from which I'm told
All history does unfold.
Down here it's made of wood and wire
And my body is on fire
And God is never far away.

Into the mercy seat I climb
My head is shaved, my head is wired
And like a moth that tries
To enter the bright eye
I go shuffling out of life
Just to hide in death awhile
And anyway I never lied.

My kill-hand is called E.V.I.L.
Wears a wedding band that's G.O.O.D.
`Tis a long-suffering shackle
Collaring all that rebel blood.

And the mercy seat is waiting
And I think my head is burning
And in a way I'm yearning
To be done with all this measuring of truth.
An eye for an eye
And a tooth for a tooth
And anyway I told the truth
And I'm not afraid to die.

And the mercy seat is burning
And I think my head is glowing
And in a way I'm hoping
To be done with all this weighing up of truth.
An eye for an eye
And a tooth for a tooth
And I've got nothing left to lose
And I'm not afraid to die.

And the mercy seat is glowing
And I think my head is smoking
And in a way I'm hoping
To be done with all this looks of disbelief.
An eye for an eye
And a tooth for a tooth
And anyway there was no proof
Nor a motive why.

And the mercy seat is smoking
And I think my head is melting
And in a way I'm helping
To be done with all this twisted of the truth.
A lie for a lie
And a truth for a truth
And I've got nothing left to lose
And I'm not afraid to die.

And the mercy seat is melting
And I think my blood is boiling
And in a way I'm spoiling
All the fun with all this truth and consequence.
An eye for an eye
And a truth for a truth
And anyway I told the truth
And I'm not afraid to die.

And the mercy seat is waiting
And I think my head is burning
And in a way I'm yearning
To be done with all this measuring of proof.
A life for a life
And a truth for a truth
And anyway there was no proof
But I'm not afraid to tell a lie.

And the mercy seat is waiting
And I think my head is burning
And in a way I'm yearning
To be done with all this measuring of truth.
An eye for an eye
And a truth for a truth
And anyway I told the truth
But I'm afraid I told a lie.

I do not watch most sitcoms.

Many people did not recognize him in "Sling Blade".

That is what I will remember him for.

Not that familiar with Johnny Cash's work, but I understand he's had a long and great career....grew up with many a "Jack Tripper" laugh. Today, they are sharing a beer in the great Reagle Beagle in the sky.

I feel the same way. I was so upset at work today that I couldn't concentrate on anything. I watched Entertainment Tonight earlier tonight I had couldn't finish watching their tribute to John. I've just felt ill all day today.

His daughter's birthday is 9/11, the day he died. She was to start kindergarden today. His wife's birthday is today, 9/12. His birthday would have been 09/17 and his anniversary would have been 9/18.

I can't even imagine what his family is going through right now.

Johnny Cash was such a humble man. I just saw a clip of an interview he did on Larry King recently. Larry asked him if he was mad at God, if he was ever angry at God for what he'd been through. And Johnny humbly said he could never be angry at God, and that his life was a beautiful one. You were also a beautiful one, Johnny.

And I also used to watch Threes Company re-runs as a kid. Thanks John Ritter for making my childhood that much happier every day after school. You'll be missed.

i played the wanderer and 'i walk the line' on my radio show

that reminded me how fuckin limited my knowledge of cash's music is.

i couldn't find the cd with his cover of 'hurt' on it

I can't see that video enough

and I just saw the tribute to Johnny Cash where U2, Willie Nelson, and scores of others played. It was quite moving seeing that now knowing he is gone

i'm gonna miss both. being a native nashville tennesseean, i have a great respect for johnny cash. three's company always makes me fall on the floor laughing. i have adored john ritter as jack tripper my whole life. just to think that he's no longer with us...it just seems so empty.

PS-so many of my favorite icons have died this year, david bloom, katherine hepburn, gregory peck, now johnny cash and john ritter, along with scores of others. i'm afraid to ask who's next.

I couldn't believe it when I heard about John Ritter's death. I'd just seen his new sitcom a week ago and it's hard not to run into a Three's Company rerun at some point or the other. :(

from tvguide.com:

THE SHOW WILL GO ON: After much "introspection and discussion," ABC has decided to continue production of 8 Simple Rules for Dating My Teenage Daughter despite the sudden death of its star John Ritter. Instead of recasting Ritter's role, producers will write his death into the show. At a press conference Tuesday, ABC chairman Lloyd Braun announced that the network would air the three episodes that Ritter completed sequentially beginning with next Tuesday's season premiere. The show will then take a brief production hiatus and "future episodes, once we come back onto the air, will take viewers into the Hennessy household as they experience the loss of a father and construct a new life together."

i was soo shocked to see these 2 greats pass on the same day :(

Actually I think it will do very well in the ratings for a while. Unfortunately morbid curiosity will get people to tune in for the 3 final episodes Ritter made, and the subsequent episodes where they deal with his death.
I hate to say that someone at ABC is probably looking at the financial upside of John's death.
Death is good for sales, look at what happened with Johnny Cash and Warren Zevon's sudden surge up the charts.
