If anyone caught the Orange Bowl or at least have surfed the web... the boo birds were out in full force for Ashlee Simpson's performance this past week. IMO it was worse than the booing Destiny's Child got from the Philadelphia fans (who have the rep for being ugly mean). A big embarassment/ negative publicity and which is alsp coupled with the whole SNL fiasco...yikes... where does Ashlee Simpson go from here?

If you were her manager or in control of her career... hell, if you were Ashlee Simpso, what would you do or what advice would you give?

How can one save her career so that it will flourish alah Alanis Morrisette.

Yeah, she can't sing decently enough for a wedding band, and she's screwed her career up on her own.

She's fucked.

She's the Ryan Leaf of pop singing in 2004.

That's what I think and the media is embracing the negativity... the teeny boppers, who I assume are buying her records and helping to propel her career will be too embarassed to buy her record b/c of the negative publicity. Can her career be Creedesque and resist the negative media backlash and her faux pauxs?

IMO she her screw ups and the fact that someone made her do the Orange Bowl gig which had the potential to backfire on her big time is a case of bad management IMO. Also the La La song sucks ass compared to her first single... what are they thinking?

I saw the whole performance.... that song was awful and I'm pretty open minded with music in general.

oh my God, how embarassing.

she may mime, but that's awful for anyone to face

I don't mind her, to be honest. Her voice isn't so bad and her music is catchy. It's just good, fun bubblegum pop.
It's weird how things change... in the summer, when I was out there, she was everywhere, and seemed to have a huge following.

erm, not so keen on that whole anarchy punkish thing that she's trying to pull.

Go get an honest job instead of mooching off a famous name.

She already had it pretty good with Jessica funneling funds to that entire money grubby family, so I don't see why this singing thing is necessary at all.

I think the hack career path goes acting->singing->porn.

Tell me "Ashlee" isn't a good name for porn.

There IS something about that spelling....

(no offense to any possible "Ashlees" around here)

Well it was a horrible performance and her voice is awful everyone there that was subjected to that performance had every right to boo her.

Evereything that's happened to her SHOULD have happened to her. Ashlee trying to be a singer or alt-rocker is akin to myself, w/o any training, working as a plumber. I'd get covered in shit, as should Ashlee.

Booing is rude. As simple as that. It just looks so terrible, how it happened in unision, like it was planned. There wasn't even a silenced attempt at applause it was strictly booing. I'm sure no one really cared about the performance at the moment and saw the guy next to them boo-ing so they went right along with it.

Typical mob-mentality. I bet that if she met all those audience members one by one they'd probably ask for an autograph and then go show-off to their friends.

I'm also sure there were plenty of rocket scientists in the stadium that day.

People hate Ashlee Simpson because it's cool to hate Ashlee Simpson. Britney Spears is no better than she is and everyone loved her for the same reason they hate Ashlee Simpson. :eyebrow:

No way. Britney at least can dance. Ashlee Simpson does not dance, does not sing, does not act, does not do anything. Her performance is the Orange Bowl was just pathetic.

By the way, she was in tune with the whole half time show, which was probably the worst half-time show I have seen in a long time. I even felt ashamed that they showed the U2 video right after it.

If I were her manager, I'd force her to get vocal and dance lessons, put her in outrageous, dark costumes, give her more explicit lyrics than Peaches, and make her more controversial than early 1990s Madonna.

In other words, I'd remake her completely.

Did you see the performance? It was HORRIBLE. The girl may be able to sing in a studio, but she sounded awful that night. I heard them replaying her performance on the radio a few days later, and it sounds even worse when you can't see her! I don't think there was any mob mentality about the booing, and I take exception to you insulting the fans that were there. They were there to see a football game, not a ridiculously bad halftime show. And many of the fans there are alums of my university. They're not a bunch of idiots.

Her performance was awful. The fans had a right to express how they felt about it.

I did see it. It wasn't really good but I wouldn't have felt so offended by it that I would've felt the absolute need to start booing.

I can just imagine some genius with beer in hand laughing it off because they just humiliated someone who is better off than they are.

I find booing to be rude and completely disrespectful. I have see my share of crappy performances but I have sufficient common sense to simply walk out or simply ignore it and wait it out.

The way the booing started in unision and immediately also makes me doubt the sincerity of the "audience's" discomfort. :tsk:

The booing began immediately after she finished the song -- the same time applause would have happened for a good performance. And applause would have happened in unision too, so would you doubt the audience's appreciation if they had applauded a great performance?

I wouldn't have booed because I probably would have been laughing much too hard to be able to catch my breath to boo, but it was a horrid performance.

As for what I would do if I was here manager, I think Melon's ideas were right on target.

Isn't that what Monica did? At least she was good at something:huh:

Apparently Monica was very good at some things even before she started to design handbags. ;)

I don't think it's rude to vocalize your distaste for something.

Why would an entire audience applaud something as crappy as her performance and after it's done applaud? To be nice? I would boo too.

Loads of singers sound crappier in concert than they do in studio. Ian Brown, for instance. Does not invalidate the Stone Roses at all.

That said, I'm rarely annoyed by anything on MTV these days, but I'll make an exception for Ashlee Simpson. She should hook up with U2 and duet with Bono - that will do wonders for her career.

Speaking of which, where the hell is that Bono/J.Lo duet thing that was supposedly in action two years ago? I'm still waiting.

Spot on about the Roses.

Bono and Ashlee???????????????? In my view, that's an even more frightful prospect than Bono and Jennifer Lopez! I sincerely hope that neither sees the light of day.

I'm probably the only one on this board, but I like Ashlee Simpson, a lot. Because of the MTV show, I went out and bought her CD the week it came out and have been listening to it nearly non-stop ever since. Her voice isn't perfect, but Bono's wasn't when "Boy" came out, Madonna's never has been, none of The Beatles were singing masters either and that hasn't stopped any of them from acheiving true greatness. What I like about the album is the songs, that she co-wrote (something most pop artists just don't do these days), they're honest and fun and sassy and heartfelt and just really great. I give her high marks for putting so much of herself into her debut, rather than relying on slick producers feeding her the latest Dianne Warren-pennned creation and sending her on her way to beige superstardom (like Faith Hill, Kelly Clarkson, Britney, Jessica and so on). She took a chance to make an album that represents herself, her feelings, her likes, her life experiences, and it's great. Some artists wait years to take that chance, others never do, so I give her major props for sticking to her guns and making the album she wanted to make.

For the SNL and Orange Bowl things, it's all really unfortunate and I think as Ashlee gets older and gets more performing experience, she'll be able to handle these things better. Yes, the Orange Bowl performance was not the best, but none of the three performers were any good. The sound, as always at large sporting events, was terrible. They should just do away with these big spectacles all together because they hardly turn out well.

My career advice to Ms. Simpson is to forge ahead, kick ass on her upcoming tour (which I'd like to see), keep learning and growing as an artist and do your damndest to prove everyone wrong who think you're nothing but a second-rate studio creation riding the coattails of her inexplicably famous sister.
